new guy 98 750i
I am the proud owner of a new (to me) 1998 BMW 750i M Series. Yes, 750i, not iL. I live in Germany and it is German spec. It only has 91,000 miles and runs/drives great. It has the old phone in it. It is the perfect car to have on the Autobahn! Question - Is there a kit that will replace the old phone with a storage space?

Hi and welcome to E38 world! I am curious as to what you think 'M series' is, as BMW never made an M E38...? To answer your question, there are are various versions of the front armrest. There is a tray to replace just the phone section, but there is also a one piece tray. You will also need the one piece lift up rest as well

chrisn7,
my steering wheel has an M on the bottom of it and it has sports suspension. The model, according to the VIN decoder, is 750i (750i M73N), so that is why I figured it was an M series. Can you give me an idea of where I can find the tray? ebay? amazon? Thanks for your help. |

The M sport steering wheel was just an option. When you say sports suspension, do you mean EDC or is there some other evidence? Is the headliner black? The M73N engine is simply that fitted in facelift cars.
You can see the parts here: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E3.../vehicle_trim/ Dealer is probably best as its hardly expensive, and removal of these trays can easily result in breakage of the plastic clips/barbs that hold the trays in place. Note their positions in case you ever need to remove the armrest again. |

The headliner is gray I believe and I have a sun roof. Yes, I have EDC. As you said it may be just an M steering wheel. All I know is it goes like a bat out of *ell. Just had it on the autobahn yesterday, my first time. It's incredible how the V12 just keeps pulling. Very responsive.

You might want to check out Tims site - the section 'Sports Models' to see if you can positively identify your car as a Sport:
http://www.meeknet.co.uk/e38/bmw_e38_buying_guide.htm Look under the rear seat cushion-you may still find the original build sheet tucked in between the springing. |

You should be able to find an armrest that has no center phone section. I also have a 750, and I got a 'euro' armrest from a guy in Poland. Fun car. Yes, the 'm' wheel was available. You should have Edc. There is a button for that in the center console.

![]() By the way, those phones aren't cheap....everyone is tossing them away and they are getting more expensive to buy all the time so hang on to yours, it will ALWAYS be worth more than a empty plastic storage tray. I want to keep my storage tray just in case I ever swap the phone back out. The trays are pretty cheap....seems like I have seen them for $15 or so on Ebay. Germany is an amazing place to own an E38. You are very fortunate! I actually spent the first few years of my life just down the road from you (OK, maybe just a little bit further than that...a 100 miles or so?) over in a small town called Fleissem near Spangdahlem AFB where my dad was stationed in the early 1960's. |
