My primary question is why not go to the dealership and seek the fix pursuant to the recall? See the information below

I see value in this part but I wouldn't buy it...

Reason...

I have an 09 (not under recall) and my seat mat sensor was replaced twice while under the 50k mile bumper to bumper warranty for being way too sensitive. If you put a WSJ on the passenger seat it would trigger the seat belt warning.

Now at 108k it started doing it again last summer. What I have discovered is the sensor is heat sensitive. If I go out to my car at lunch on a hot day (100 degrees) the sensor will chime and I just put the seat belt on the passenger seat until the ac cools the cabin down. I can live with this minor inconvenience for a few months every year.

I could fix it with a new mat. Part is around $200....time is about 2 hours and I would have to have the dealer code it for another $150. This isn't worth it to me, but a cheap interface makes sense.

Now why I wouldn't buy it...how do I know the claim the airbag will still deploy is true and has been tested??????? I surely don't want to be the one who finds out.

I thought BMW's final word on the passenger airbag occupancy sensor issues was a warranty extension to 10 years regardless of whether VIN was in original recall.

See: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...72&postcount=7

So, no need to pay $200 for a new sensor and labor to install it, nor to waste money on a fudge that appears to come from Ireland but has the spelling and grammatical errors of a Hong Kong or mainland China ebay seller.

I thought so too Supercourse. Air bags issues are very sensitive and are most likely handled by the NHTSA.

This recall was a big issue and they should cover it. In fact, I will pass by my dealership to make sure it was done on my vehicle.

Yes, there are reports that you have to guide some Service Advisors along.

Here's the full thread that might help:

reset tool

It has been so long I don't remember. I bought it off of e-bay. I will go to the shop and get the information off of it for you. This reset tool works off of the plug under the hood not the one inside. ic

Diagostic

I found the e-bay purchase for that too. It came from Wowpartspro. It is listed as:
U480 can obdII obd2 car diagostic scanner tool. If you need I will still try to take a picture of it. It worked twice for me. I took the seat out and re-covered it and the light came back on. The tool got it again and it has not come back on.
You have to have the round adapter for the under the hood hook up. ic

I think that one resets codes from the inside. I had to get a different type and the round plug that fits in the engine compartment to make the seat/airbag light go away. I think I mislead you on the other but it is useful. My ODII scanner went out and I bought another one and it was the last thing I found on my e-bay buy list. Let me go back and try to find BMW SRS reset scanner. ic

The correct tool is a B800 BMW SRS reset too. The reset is usually yellow and it will come with the round adapter. ic
