2008 Halo light change.

I have a 2008 x3 with the HID option. Does anyone know if the halo lights can be changed to be led? Anywhere I read says its possible as long as it came standard with HID package, however can't find instructions.

Headlights have two connectors - te big one is for the entire headlight and the other smaller one is for halos. Unscrew the small one and there is the halo bulb. If you find a led
bulb that fits - let us know

Got the led halo lights today.
They were $39 on ebay, 5w and produce no error code. Literally took me 5 minutes to install.

Clear difference.

Those look awesome! What's involved to change them out?

For the passenger side i had to move the washer fluid compartment out of the way by removing one screw. Then just reach in, twist and pull. The new bulbs fit right in then plug into the original adapter. The drivers side was easier, just repeat only without moving anything in the engine compartment. One thing I will mention is that you must have the original oem HID xenons, otherwise youll need to buy a different setup from which ive heard is much more pricey and more difficult.

Thanks for the tip! I didn't realize it was this easy if you already have xenons.

Now all y'all have to do is code out the US-spec parking lights that look ugly and (In my opinion, and the European Safey Commission's opinion) confuse other drivers at a glance as to whether you're changing lanes.

An then you have to put your halos as DRLs

This makes a huge improvement in looks at night. Best mod I have done with coding on wife's X3. The euro 3 blink turn signal is nice also

Couldn't do the 3-blink on my 02/04 build, I remember it was a model year 2005 (post 09/04) feature.

Best feature for me was to shut off the key chime. It's something I notice almost everyday. Allowing for full beams and foglights gleichzeitig (together) is a safety boon in the mountains where fog can suddenly appear and disappear.

As for the amber parking lights, I just don't like them. Amber lights should service one and only one purpose, to indicate a turn or lane change when the indicator stalk is on. In the US, sometimes I'm not 100% sure at a glance, whether a car is changing lanes or not on a multi-lane highway when I'm slightly ahead but still next to a vehicle and turn my head to make sure we don't change lanes into each other.

Plus even without the corona rings, the older-style parking lights look cool at dusk

Off topic slightly, but has anyone switched out their low beam bulb as well to matchup better with their Xenon's ?

Could someone post a pic showing where the HALO bulb is located? I tried looking for it but couldn't see it. Thanks!

Now I'm trying to determine the best way to enable these as DRL. Obviously I have to get the OEM DRL coded out, but not sure about the wiring. I'm thinking about a relay and wiring that to the ECU. Has anyone bought the DAEOS and installed on an X3?

Nah, I'm too computer-illiterate to handle that stuff. But its no different than that for a E46, same cable and operating system perimeters.

When replacing angel eye bulbs do I have to install that piece of wire that comes with the bulbs or just plug the bulb in and discard the wires?

Installed a Daeos harness today and got it working as desired. That harness seems to be made for the E90 with ECU box on the passenger side. My X3 has ECU on the driver side, and there is no specific ground post as the E90 has in the videos/instructions. I had to cut the wire loom of the harness to extend the ground wire to the hood strap. That was the only place I could find where the supplied ground connector ring would work. It might be possible to ground it to the body elsewhere but the ring connector would need to be a larger size.

Almost there, now I just have to code out the DRL.

The previous owner was kind enough to provide me the USB cable needed for the car so I just need the correct software. If anyone has info on where to download DIS (if that is what I need) it would be appreciated.

Try a search on eBay for "MTEC LED BMW X3 Angel Eyes" The eBay page for the item should have a list of BMWs the particular bulb will work on. See post #3 above for some eBay angel eye LEDs.

These are the ones I purchased. They do go on sale on eBay every month or two.
I'm waiting for "warm" day to install them.
