Start from the top. Pull out enough so you can catch the lip around the fog light lens. Just keep pulling working from top down. The plastic is actually pretty flexible and durable. I've pulled mine out half a dozen times without and issues.

Heat is also your friend when removing. Do it after a good drive or put a heat gun on it for a minute.
I will bow my head in shame and admit I broke a few tabs removing mine. But, they snapped back in well and feel solid. Live and learn.

Here is an example of 5k vs 6k bulbs. This Saab has 5000k HIDs for headlight and 6000k for fogs. I was worried the 5k may be too blue; however, from THAT pic I think I may be ok the color.
http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/sh....php?p=2280352 ![]() I actually have a 55watt DDM kit on my DD (2004 Saab). It's on as daytime running lights the whole time my car is on (thanks to GM ). I say this because after all those hours (probably over 300 hours) they still work great after 5 years. I was debating if I should get the 4500k kit, 5000k kit or the more expensive, less bright but perfectly matched Cree LED bulbs: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=666582 Thanks for sharing your experience Chuck. Great job!

I actually swap between the ddm tuning 35watt ballast and the 55watt Morimoto ones from TRS. Although one of my ddm tuning set already died on me the second set has been trouble free.
My morimoto ones have been having flickering issues since day 1 and i am about to swap out one last part that they suggested to see if it will fix the issue. One thing i do have to say is that the going from 35-55watt there is a HUGE difference. Its actually too bright and i get flashed by other drivers now. I'm running 5000K morimoto bulbs which matches the oem rings perfectly but i am going to switch the out and try out the 3000K yellows for two reasons. 1. it should be less blinding for others and 2. the yellow should provide more contrast on the road. I use these to mainly help me spot out those humungous potholes we have here in NY (BQE) and the super bright 5000k lights sorta just washes everything out in bright white light. In my opinion so far....the DDM 35watt ballast paired with the morimoto 5000K bulbs looks the best. No need to go 55watt nor spend the extra dime on the morimoto ballast. The ddm's are cheap enough that you can have 2 sets as back up before it would cost the same as the morimotos. Alan

Great info Alan. Thanks!
When I bought my DDM kit 4 years ago, they were $120. They are the slim kit; however, I wonder if they were resourced from a better vendor. If you look at the link I posed at the bottom of that Saab Central page, I used capacitors to alleviate the strobing light issue. I would not want to "rig" that type of set-up on my Bimmer. I was thinking of mentioning your exact statement - that the 35 watt HID kit would be the brightest I would go in the fogs. I honestly don't like and don't want my fogs to over power my angel eyes and headlights. I would save that bright fog light look for Ram trucks. Chuck and those with the 35 watt HID kit in the fogs, do you think that the fogs are brighter than the angel eye DRLs?

Not sure. I got the slim DDM kit for around 35 bucks direct from them and I am also using their error eliminator canbus harness on my car. They work perfect when its full ddm tuning stuff with my morimotor bulbs. No errors or any flickering.
The problem I am having is that i'm using the ddm canbus error eliminator harness with the 55watt morimotor kit. Supposidly the 55watt kit isn't getting enough power during warm up which is causing the light to flicker. I ordered the morimoto canbus harness now and waiting to try that. Basically i'll have one set of full ddm and one set of morimotor after this. I'm skeptical about using the 55watt kit now because they are so damn bright. If the 3000k yellow bulbs are still too bright i may end up adding a light smoke tint over my fogs so it protects the lens from rocks and also tones down how crazy bright they are. Alan

When the headlights are on, the fogs look much better than when just running them with the DRLs.

Just to add the morimoto 5000K bulbs were much nicer than the 5000K ddm bulbs.
The DDM like you said has a slight blue look to them and is more like 6000k than 5000K imo. Morimotos were pure white and a very close match with the halos. They some how also seem brighter too. Alan

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=666582 Actual product page: http://www.amazon.com/Bulbs-Headligh...I3KI7J0NCXCTHQ Because they do not seem to be blue at all. Would these be a safer bet to make sure there is no blue? I want to do the fog light mod but don't want any hint of blue. Thanks.

Mine are the DDM ones. I would just go down one notch to 4500. I may buy a pair and see how they look.
The prices have just dropped though the floor on these kids. Several years ago a bunch of us bought them for our 993 (911) Porsche. They were a steal at $250.

Hey Alan. If you can help me it would be greatly appreciated. I am replacing the stock fog light bulbs with a xenon bulb kit with the balasters. I removed the fog light grill, removed the 2 screws and the light won't come out and I can't find another screw. Do you know how to remove it? Thanks in advanced

I didn't remove any screws or the light assembly when I did my fogs. There's plenty of room once the mesh grill is out.

Just use a Screwdriver or something similar to lift out the plastic gril. Its easy, the grill is flexible and cannot break.
