Thinking of buying a 2004 325Cic

My friend has had this 325Cic sitting at his house for a couple months now with a whole in the engine. I would like to buy it from him since I miss driving one. My question is what would be a reasonable offer to give him. It's a 2004 325 Cic auto and about 120k on the body. Iv'e driven it before and before it blew up, everything worked. I wouldn't mind doing the work to replace the engine since I go to school for automotive and have access to everything I need.

Offer him $1200 for it and see how he reacts to that....

$1,000. Do an S65 swap. Like this guy.

Engine without car cost easily more than car without engine.

Or ofcourse could go bit milder... but you don't have to get just another similar if going to swap engine anyway.

NADA (using southeast prices) has the average trade in for that car at $8700. Take $6000 away for motor swap and that is your HIGH figure. I personally would not offer more than $2000. If he balks, let the car continue to be a yard orrnament.

I think you misread my post. I said S65. As in E92 ///M3. V8. 400 HP.

Then again... if going crazy with whole different kind engine, then electronics and drivetrain need to be rebuilt also.

When staying in same age standard e46 engine then it's almost plug and play without so much extra work.

Thanks for the suggestions and I think I'm going to offer him around 1500. Assuming cash is king and would take it if it was right in his face.
