Thanks for sharing Chuck! Looking good. I do agree with the other comments that the aftermarket spoiler does seem a bit more aggressive exaggerated. It actually looks like a good mix between the M5 spoiler and the Performance spoiler. Quote:
I guess if I was debating between the Performance spoiler and the M spoiler, maybe this Taiwan deal is up my alley

The spoiler looks and fits great (a tiny bit raised on each side but not really noticeable and maybe by design).
Problems would be: Paint came really swirled up on the left half, and you have to apply the adhesive to the back yourself. If you get the adhesive too close to the edges (which I made the mistake of slightly doing), you can see the tape peeking out in between where the spoiler and trunk meet. As for the design, I was pretty worried about it considering on the white cars on the pictures it looks maybe a bit toooo aggressive and noticeably carved and raised up (which might be at odds with this elegant design on the car), but at least on my black car it looks awesome. The added aggressiveness is actually welcome and interesting, and at least on black it doesn't intrude on the design "sanctity" at all.

I found the M5 spoiler to be too simple and it looks almost invisible on dark coloured cars so I went ahead with the M performance spoiler..BMW offers it only in carbon fiber but you can order a coloured spoiler from other sellers..I ordered a carbon fiber M performance spoiler from JBSPEED..here are the pics

I really like both the M5 spoiler and the M Performance spoiler, but decided to go with the M5 spoiler. The description says "professional installation recommended", but really this is something I can probably do myself, right? All you need to do is apply the adhesive tape to the spoiler and then stick the spoiler onto the trunk, right? Also, thanks to whoever originally posted the eBay link. I'm sure I'll be happy with the spolier based on everyone's reviews, but I'll update this thread with my feedback after I install it.

You know if I recall correctly I also take Dawn and water and prep the area to remove any wax before I put on the spoiler so maybe he uses alcohol and water instead?

Yeah, but he used it *after* the spoiler was already in place. Either way, I plan to spray the truck down with a Windex and water mix, put the spoiler on, "slide" it into place, and then let it sit to dry. When it dries, the spoiler will be stuck in position and shouldn't move. Is it that simple?

There is a small gap present on the lower back side of the spoiler which is only visible if you bend down next to the spoiler height to closely inspect it. It is somewhat visible in the picture above but good if you cannot notice it ![]() I took my car for wash several times after the installation and they use pressure spray for washing. The spoiler is still there sticking like a stock item from factory. I will give it 9/10 overall. Deducted 1 mark for the small gap as I am too anal about everything. If you cannot notice it then its 10/10 |

I put the $69 ebay special on my 550i. The paint was spot on and the fit and finish seems to be excellent. It arrived with a few swirl marks but was able to get them out with my polisher.

For those who put on the M performance spoiler, did you guys use 1 or 2 strips of tape?

Here's my JB Speed M5 style spoiler attached by a few thin strips of the 3M double sided tape that came with it. Placement is easy as it is pretty stiff and not like the floppier versions for the E46. The tape underneath can be the slightest bit visible upon close inspection (if you were crouched on the ground behind it.) Use thin consecutive strips to attach it and not randomly sized strips (like I did but will fix).

3 strips for me. The ones that came with the spoiler didn't stick well so I peel them off and re-apply.

I really like this m5 spoiler... its just enough to finish off the rear but not too much. I think this is the same one they sell on ebay for $69 from overseas.

DieselNY, a few have commented that the Taiwan $69 special spoiler is a bit more flared than the OEM M5 spoiler. It may be similar to a mix between the OEM Performance spoiler and the M5 spoiler.
I have been looking and loving all these posts with awesome pics! Special recognition to Qadhi79, Keyser and Chuck. This thread is torture, because I have the Mod bug - where I want to do almost all the mods I see here at the Fest!!! I keep staring at the rear of my F10 debating if a spoiler would be a welcome addition. The look I want with my F10 is of a clean ,sporty, big body luxury vehicle that is wide and low. I keep asking myself if the spoiler would distract from the width of the rear and make the vehicle look taller. I ask myself if a spoiler would make my 5 have styling more similar with a 3. At the end, it's all about what I like; however, this is my transparent thought process. This mod for $69 bucks makes the decision that much tougher! If the spoiler was $400, it would not even be on my radar. Lol.

Speaking of the Taiwan $69.00 spoiler, I ordered mine through eBay on Monday 1/21 and it still has not shipped. For those of you who ordered from "bmwchop168" how long was it before your order shipped since the time of your order? I'm just curious...
