e34 no heat
Hello all
Pretty new to this forum. so excuse any obvious things that i mention/miss. I have a 1995 bmw 525i (e34) and found out yesterday the heater is not putting out any heat. The fans work but blow out cold air. Also the Temp. gauge gets to middle when idel but when I drive on highway (65mph) in cold weather it drops to where the blue mark is... Should the temp gauge be middle during driving conditions? I think once I figure out the why the gauge isnt staying in the center while driving, that will also fix my heating issue. any advice would be appreciated. EDIT: Thank you for your replies. Yesterday I did let the car heat up at idle until the temp. gauge reached middle, then turned on the heat...and it was just barely warm not as hot as I expected. Sounds like your thermostat has stuck in the open position.

I concur with the thermostat replacement. When I had the same issue, I found that my thermostat was broke and stuck in the open position. It took care of my no heat issue. Also, you may have a clogged heater core but that can usually be flushed out. Good luck and let us know it that works for you

I agree with the thermostat. The fact that the engine cools at highway speeds proves it bad.
You may also have a problem with the aux coolant pump. If it is not working very little warm coolant will flow through the heater core and your heat will be weak. Blocked system was also mentioned. How long since the last coolant flush?

I have had the car for about a year and month have just added coolant have not flushed the system. Hopefully its is something I can do myself. Also can someone recommend which thermostat I should get (manufacturer and where i can purchase)? And coolant type that I should use. I heard we need a special BMW coolant..is that true? |
