Trans failsafe prog update
I posed earlier about what was going on with my 98 540I and took it to a mechanic to do an inspection, and he called me back and told me I have forward clutch drum damage. Code p0720 & p0731. He said he would need me to do a rebuild and estimated it at $2800. Should I do this or should a try an find anther and have that installed?

Unless you plan on putting another 200k miles on it or it has ultra low miles on it now, I'm not sure it's worth sinking that much money into a rebuilt transmission on a 14 year old E39.
You should be able to put a decent used one in for much less than that or be able to sell it as is and invest what you would have spent putting a new transmission into getting a newer E39. |

Well it has about 150k right now, I haven't had really any problems with it til now, and I like my car a lot. I'm just not sure if I'm getting over priced. Or if it would be better and cheaper to go with another one.
