Considering Facelift iDrive Retrofit

As the title says, I am considering upgrading my car to the facelift iDrive.

Would anyone be able to take some pictures / video of their iDrive and navigating around it?

I only ask as my friend has a 07 335i with the CCC system and I don't really like the way his iDrive navigates around menus.

If the one in the e65 is the same system I may not bother with the upgrade! The only thing I really want is bluetooth, and it would be nice for the display to look more modern.

Also has anyone tried integrating the CIC system from an e60? I spent a couple of hours goggling and couldn't find any info about it, but I know it IS possible for 5 series owners from 2004 to fit the CIC system.

Facelift is very similar to pre in regards to using the menus etc. it looks much better IMO. But I don't have one so can't take pics for you. It's much clearer and the navi looks way better

i have put in the 07 mmi into my 02 7 series. Is quite easy to do as its plug and play. The hard part is coding it to work with what you got.

What I don't like about the CCC system in the 3 (and I assume 5) series around 2007 was the sliding up and down to go between sub menus while in a menu.

I guess form what little I found on youtube this is not the case on the facelift. It looks like it has the same styling as the newer cars but you still slide between only main menus and turn / press for everything else.

I would probably be intending to fit to my car would just be the screen then maybe new TCU in the future for bluetooth.

I am handy with the coding myself (as soon as I can get NCS expert working again xD - I have everythign else working and even flashed my gearbox / recovered it after bricking it with winKFP and tool32, but NCS Expert is having a right hissy fit).

I am interested in the CIC if it is possible, and I might buy a CIC screen / system (all in the M-ask?) when I have some money spare and see what happens, if it doesn't work I can always sell it on again, but if it does then that would be nice

I am investigating do the same type of conversion. Would you please explain how to remove the existing components? Pictures and video would be great.

I upgraded my 05 to an 07 MMI I picked up from Paper. Real simple switch out with just a few screws and then simply pop it out the front. It is just a plug and play. Like someone said though. The coding is the big part. Bluetooth, Aux for IPod, turning off the notification every time u start your car among other things. Simple switch out though.

Would you be more specific on where the screws are? i took a close look at mine today and I couldn't see any access point for removal. Do I have to pop off some trim to get to the screws?

It's been a year since I replaced this so going off memory. I believe you pop off the lower vent panel just in front of the MMI screen then the second panel that the vent came out of also.I believe there are 3 small screws on the top above and just in front of the screen, then that releases the MMI to wiggle out. Hope that makes sense.

Found the screws and will start by trying to pop those panels.

One other question - do you know if I can upgrade by 2002 745i to any of the newer MMI/ASK combinations or am I restricted to certain model years?

Just guessing but I would say it could only be able to be up until the 08's. and you want to make sure that its out of one that has build date after March 05. My 7 was a 12/04 build date and that is why I had to upgrade to be able to accept OEM Bluetooth, iPod, etc...

I would check with Paper. He's the brain with the knowledge. He coded mine before sending an 07 MMI to me that I bought from him. I just removed original and installed new one. Took about 30 mins. Just wiggle it out gently once the screws and trim are out. I didn't upgrade my ASK though.
