Look at this video, particularly the steering wheel & seats. 3-spoke wheel, seats are more agressively bolstered and have the slide-out thigh supports, which is a dead giveaway. If your seats are different, it`s not a Sport Pkg.

Welcome and congrats on the new car! I've moved your thread over to the E39 (your chassis code) forum. You should be able to get more help here.

Good luck,
Tim

Seats are only a give away if its post facelift. Both my 540i/6 and my touring have sport package and neither have the sport seats, they have the "sport comfort" without the leg extension.

1998 was the 1st yr bmw offered sport pkg for the 528i. There wasn't alot of bells and whistles w/ the sport pkg like that of the '99 on up, (sports /premium, sports w/ cold weather pkg, etc...) and it was nowhere as equal to the 540i sport having a much wider array of sports options.

Basically, it came w/
1) Style 5 - 17x8" wheels. THis is the biggie. Style 5 wheels. baskeweave BBS wheels w/ bunch of bolts circling the inner rim. 2 piece construction wheels.
2) Inside the car, the plastic trim and center console should have a fake black carbon fiber look, not wood.
3) The steering wheel won't be 3 spoke on '98, but 4 spoke still.
4) Outside the car, the trim around the side windows will be blacked out, not chrome.
5) The sport suspension will lower the car by about 1", which is pretty hard to see if you don't know what to look for.

Seats the same as standard, and a moonroof was an option ( $1200, I think). I wish I would have spec'd mine w/ moon roof deleted. If only I knew then what I now know ....

Ill agree with everything except #4, again from experience my 97 540/6 had black piano trim inside, non sport seats, non sport wheel, and, chrome trim, but the stock 17s and I am pretty sure the pre facellifted 540/6 all have the sport package.
