I did replace the guide rails at 280,000 mi. along with the tensioner but the noise didn't change. No matter what happens at this point, I feel have got my moneys worth out of it.

Replace the tensioner. Its cheap, only takes 30 min, and might cure the noise. No special tools needed.

Can anyone post the DIY link here for the tenioner I'm suppose to change

She runs really rough on a cold start

I waited to own a 530i for 31 years. All the way from the 2 E12's I either drove or rode in as a child/teenager until I fell in love with my final destination, my beautiful 530i E39

I could care less about the V8 cars. The original 5 series was and will always be a sexy six.

I've driven all the straight six e39s but nothing feels or sounds like a v8

I couldn't go back to a six myself. That torque is too addicting.

Of course I did the air filter, oil change, and spark plugs first. Even did the VCGs and upper timing chain cover gaskets. Throw the CCV in for good measure. Still think the fuel system cleaner did the most towards smoothing the cold start. I figure the fuel injectors had crappy spray patterns which caused the cold start symptoms.

So is it fixed now? Mine is acting all weird it started smoking the other day smoking blue smoke and I'm thinking it might be the oil separator but not sure

I'll chalk that little grammar faux pas up to a bit too much Absolut but you're right, I have no misgivings about the V8 cars. I just don't need the extra power for my daily driver.

But if I did, it would be a newer GTO or something in coupe trim.
