When we lived and worked in the NY metro area, we carried a Life Hammer (http://www.amazon.com/LifeHammer-Ori...window+breaker), a bat, quarters and a PBA card.

Ha, just went to Harbor Freight in Dunwoody yesterday to pick up a compact floor jack and two jack stands. The boat trailer had a flat tire...

I also like the idea of a tarp, so many uses actually, thanks for the suggestion.

I'm sure how that'll help with.... Something .
I just think a lot of people go over board buying supplies for getting stranded, but forget about the mental side, a first aid kit only helps so much without the knowledge to go along with it.

Water pump, alternator, air compressor module, air springs, valve cover gaskets, brake vacuum pump, various coolant hoses, and mechatronic sealing sleeve. You know, just enough to handle any of the small things that might crop up in an X5 on a drive across town to grab a coffee.

Shouldn't you be driving a Range Rover instead?

Anyway, I have:
window breaker / seat belt cutter
swiss army knife
led flashlight
cig lighter air compressor
first aid stuff
whatever the car came with in terms of tools in the back (I really should check if it's even enough to change a tire eh?)

I should add:
change of clothes
duct tape
lighter

Wow, I feel like an amateur. I have:
- Running leashes for the dogs. They tie around the waist but double as emergency leash for stray dogs.
- Dog treats
- A bunch of quarters for parking meters if I can't find free parking
- $50 in case I forget my wallet and need a gas top off
- BMW mobility kit in case one of the conventional winter tires goes limp

That's it... Like I said, amateur...
