No more valet key?

In our former 09 535i there was a valet key in the glove box which would allow the car to be parked by the valet while I held onto the keys and main fob. In our new 2013 X3 it seems that nice accessory is gone.

Looks like I can just take out the manual key from the fob so my house keys and such stay w/ me, but, the main transmitter still has to be left w/ the valet.

If the actual transmitter is lost (say by the valet), will the manual key still allow the car to operate?

I'm not missing anything am I?

I had a valet key with all my past BMW's and didn't even think of that.

My guess is if the transmitter part of the fob is gone there would be no way to start the car. Hum...wonder what the cost of the fob and programming will run.

There is a manual key that can be separated to open the door and held against the steering column base to start the car. Unfortunately, the manual key is attached to the key ring, so it cannot be place on a hook.
