2000 740il engine noise

I recently purchased my 740il with 83k. I know that this is the true milage as I have all service records and the car looks showroom fresh (well,pretty close). My prior car was a 2002 Lexus 430 and prior to that , a 2000 400. Both Lexus had totally silent engines, you could not hear them running. Here is my question, should a 740 engine be silent as well? It almost sounds like dirty lifters from a V-8. Should I be concerned? The previous owner pampered the car and had all service done by a BMW dealer until I purchased it. Thanks for any thoughts.

Change the oil and test again. Sometimes stealers are just that.
