I've been well hon, thanks! All well on your end?

You're completely welcome to come back here now y'know, Sama hasn't been here in weeks (and barely at all in the last year).

Doing ok now, had a bumpy few months. Was finally able to order my brake pads, so should have my baby back any day now. Yes, I'm counting the days.

I didn't know he was anti-Amber? Oh well, people change I suppose. I've been wanting to come back I just kept getting side tracked. Working on the car today and hearing from Ken to check on his adventures reminded me properly to come back. What's new over on your end?

Sama is not in the least Anti-Amber (so far as I know), I just threw his name out there as also being AWOL. Y'all (did I spell that right?) coming on up for BF.e this year?

Good I'd hate for there to be an anti-Amber faction! Ken definitely made me want to be there badly showing me the pictures from last year. I'm going to try. Finances the way they are I can't promise anything. Plus I'd want to bring Ashlyn so she'll need to be road-trip ready. It's definitely more feasible than going out to the west coast's 'fest.

Yes you spelled it correctly according to my spell-check.

So who else is still around?

First off, Chip's still here, Randy, Karl, Joe, Alan, Los just got deployed until September IIRC, Chad (obviously, hell, he even owns an E36 again!), Ken, Kenny, Cesar just started posting again, as did Trey, Don, df, Franklyn, Frank (though fewer and further between), Joey, and I think that may sum it up for the old-timers.

What Don did last year and says he'll do again this (from Florida) is drove up, and took the Auto-Train back.

Not too shabby a list and some of the best from then. Awesome!

Auto Train? This being what? And why do I not know of it? Hopefully Ken can go again, would be fun to caravan.

And whilst I'm pic whoring I have a couple rolling shots, guess I'll put them here. Not so great picture quality though.

No current pictures of the lovely Miss Amber herself?!?

I believe this is what Don was referring to:

There's one of me being silly in the Today on my bimmer thread... but other than that I don't think I even have any. Just the cars .

Hmm it's an idea, definitely. A little out of the way, but would cut down on the miles being put on the car possibly. I'd have to do the math and see which would be better.

I figured it up. It's further for you to drive over and catch the Auto Train than it would be to just drive straight to Aberdeen. It's a toss-up for me, but I'm 200 miles closer to Sanford, FL (where you load/ board and unload / disembark).

I just looked at the site in more detail, they offer a New Orleans - Atlanta - New York line too.

I wish they had a car train from New England...I would certainly take it back....the worst part is DC to NY...so jumping on in NY is no great advantage....

Same here, no service in Charleston. I'd take that thing in a second at $226 just to save 1500 miles on my car. Better take some entertainment though. 26 hours on a train the train would be rough.

Yes, Amtrak's "Crescent", but that's coach seating and you can't take your car along. The only Auto Train service they have is Sanford, FL to Lorton, VA, and it's considerably more than $226.

For that same $226 or less you can fly round trip to DC from (sort-of) here. but you still don't have your BMW with you.

Apologies, I got caught up in their website and how it lets you choose any station.

EDIT:

Happy birthday Jesse, sorry I missed that in my first post.

I did read once that when forensic pathologists see signs of deterioration instead of growth in a body they determine the age to have been over 25. Guess it really is all downhill from there.

I guess for you guys it's one of those qualitative decisions........

Sanford is only 25 miles from me and the station in Lorton,VA is adjacent to I-95 so it's just a matter of if I'm riding or driving, the route is almost the same. Driving up vs. autotrain back was almost the same cost each way if you include the cost of gas and the overnight hotel for the drive up.

As Ken said, they only have the one route and if you can't take your car along it's better to fly.

Ken, that's a lot of driving the wrong direction to save 200 miles IMHO. Google Earth indicates 8 hours to Sanford and 10.5 to Fayetteville, NC if you're comparing first day drives. It's about 6 hours driving from Fayetteville to Aberdeen, vs 16 on the train from Sanford to Lorton,VA then 2 hours from Lorton to Aberdeen.
