2007 328xi coupe

Hi,

First off, a warning: I do not know much about cars.

I bought a used '07 328xi with about 81,000mi on it and now with about 85,000mi and I've been having a lot of growing pains with this car. First, after running the car and driving, when I brake at a stop light or such, I begin to hear a high-pitched noise coming from my engine. Could this be a timing chain issue? Also, if I brake hard at times, there is a bad smell. Do I need to get my brake pads replaced? Also, if there are estimates anyone could provide for the issues mentioned that would be great! Thanks all!!

The smell of burning brake pads is completely normal on bmw cars, don't worry at all. And about the high pitched noise coming from the engine compartment, these cars are prone to have defective and noisy alternators so get your checked ! Hope this help you a bit !

Thank you! I'm surprised that a burning brake pad smell is normal. Sending my car to the auto shop tomorrow to get my engine checked out though.
