Which one...?
I am currently an owner of E39 with 65k miles and its my 3rd car and mostly pleasure. I am seriously contemplating on selling the car and getting an X5 E70 and I am confused on which one to buy 3.0 (Turbo), Diesel or 4.8..I am not that much concern about GAS mileage but concern with maintenance cost as this will be my pleasure vehicle as well...What do you guys recommend. I am looking for something in the 30 ~ 40k mile range
Thanks for your inputs folks |

Based upon your criteria... I'd go for a X5M. If cost is issue, then a used X5M or a 50i.

My GF has a 3.0 turbo X5 and it's a great car! Every time I stop for gas (and that is often in the X5M) I am reminded of how nice a car hers is

You really should test drive them both.
After test driving I really wanted a 35d but the well optioned ones were still a little beyond my budget so I opted for an older, but loaded, 4.8i. As much as I like the 4.8, after having it for a few months I regret not holding out for the right 35d. I'm not saying the diesel is better for you. Just that you should drive them both and decide for yourself. The difference between them is significant.

I agree with Ductman. I just turned in a 2010 4.8i with the updated I drive. Got a 5.0 M sport with performance pack. The 4.8 with the six speed auto is a simple combo and one I would want if I were going to drive it to 100k or more. In 3 years I had no warranty work just oil changes and tires. Good performance (not special like the 5.0) with no flaws. But do get a late 2010 with the updated I drive -- much improved.
