Volunteer to help with head gasket replacement in NY Brooklyn
Hey.
HELP NEEDED or YOU CAN HAVE IT FOR $2000 So I suspect that my head gasket needs to be replaced. There is no coolant leak and I am loosing it pretty fast. I have to add it every two weeks. I have put a lot of $$$$ into my car and the worst thing is that it went from inexpensive things like heater core, then radiator, then whole front suspension to head gasket. If it was in a different order than I wouldn't bother with fixing it just sell it for whatever it goes; but now after investing so much $$ I feel very bad to sell it for peanuts. Don't get me wrong radiator and other stuff I mentioned are expansive but not as much when comparing to head gasket. I live in Bay Ridge Brooklyn with no access to garage. I would attemt to fix it myself but I need time since I have never done this kind of job; therefore I can't attempt to do it on the street. I have no more $$$$ to spend on mechanics and the head gasket will cost me more than a $1000 to fix it at a shop. It just got way too expensive. So here is my querstion: is there anybody out there that knows how to do it and is willing to help me out? I know that I am asking for a lot but I have nothing to lose at this point. I know its a reduculously long and difficul process, and I am willing to pay up to $300 for your help because that is all I can afford. Also, if anybody is interested I will sell the car for $2000 just because it still runs good, doesn't overheat and has a lot of new parts which are worth more than what I want for it. I have receipts for everything, even gas. I took a very good care of the car. Its a 1993 525i with 156k miles white with gray interior. It has a remote start. If you live close by and are willing to help than please let me know by emailing me. Same if you want to buy the car. I was going to use a head gasket sealant but for some reason I feel like these kind of products could only make things worse. So I am not doing that. email - czadek@hotmail.com |

I have a suggestion. As you are at the point where you have nothing to lose, then attemp it yourself. Get a Bentley E34 manual and go for it. This is assuming that you have tools to do the job???
The first thing I would do is get it to a mechanic for a diag to ensure that it is indeed the head gasket. That should be under 100 bucks. It is well worth it before you take on a job like that for nothing. I am in jersey but busy working on my (Now my brothers) 525I so I can Kick him out LOL... Uum, I mean, get him back home to GA :o))) But if my brother gets out of here before the weekend I will come out and we can look into your troubles. Check your PM in box for my number.

Hey guys. Thank you for your good intentions. BMWFatherfigure, it would probably be cheaper to fly you in than pay for the shop hehe. Thanks to CarDriver who lives right next to me. My problem might be solved. I'll update this thread if anything changes. Thanks again, and huge thanks to CarDriver for contacting me.

if you do ever make it to the states, preferably the east side, preferably jersey, give us a holler, I wouldn't mind hoisting a few with a couple friends

Progress! :)
Hey to all. Like I said I would update this thread once there is some progress. So the problem in fact is the head gasket. White smoke coming from the back, increase in the oil which also became very liquidy and white resedue on the oil cap. Huge thanks to CarDriver who came all the way from NJ to help me out we got to work. It took a while because of the snow storm, distance and etc, but we finally got to it. A buddy of mine let us use a garage with heaters inside which is nice since the weather is not so much. I got an OEM headgasket kit from BMA parts (awesome prices). We've done a lot so far but got stuck with the clutch fan. We were unable to remove it just by lacking it with a screw driver. We need a special tool for that. Does anybody know where to get it? I'll call BMA parts tomorrow. We only work on the car on weekends because of our schedules. Again, thanks to CarDriver. I'd be screwed without him.
