Apple® today announced financial results for its 13-week fiscal 2013 first quarter ended December 29, 2012. The Company posted record quarterly revenue of $54.5 billion and record quarterly net profit of $13.1 billion, or $13.81 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $46.3 billion and net profit of $13.1 billion, or $13.87 per diluted share, in the 14-week year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 38.6 percent compared to 44.7 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 61 percent of the quarter's revenue.

Average weekly revenue was $4.2 billion in the quarter compared to $3.3 billion in the year-ago quarter.

The Company sold a record 47.8 million iPhones in the quarter, compared to 37 million in the year-ago quarter. Apple also sold a record 22.9 million iPads during the quarter, compared to 15.4 million in the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 4.1 million Macs, compared to 5.2 million in the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 12.7 million iPods in the quarter, compared to 15.4 million in the year-ago quarter.

Apple's Board of Directors has declared a cash dividend of $2.65 per share of the Company's common stock. The dividend is payable on February 14, 2013, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on February 11, 2013.

"We're thrilled with record revenue of over $54 billion and sales of over 75 million iOS devices in a single quarter," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "We're very confident in our product pipeline as we continue to focus on innovation and making the best products in the world."

"We're pleased to have generated over $23 billion in cash flow from operations during the quarter," said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's CFO. "We established new all-time quarterly records for iPhone and iPad sales, significantly broadened our ecosystem, and generated Apple's highest quarterly revenue ever."

I think the analysts are simply nuts. They've got into this mindset that anything short of revolutionizing the world is simply inadequate for Apple and so they use words like "disappointing" when Apple has record sales or revenues. I don't think Apple could do anything that would actually satisfy the analysts. Someone else pointed out that if Apple unveiled a literal Time Machine, the analysts would complain it didn't travel through time fast enough.

This was the 4th largest quarterly earnings of all time, worldwide.

As an investor, in well before the iPhone, I'm happy with results and analysts are still hanging on to $600 predictions

Earlier this month, Cramer called Apple a "tough own" and reiterated this sentiment that the Apple ecosystem brings with it a range of concerns and unknowns.

Their earnings are nothing to sneeze at. They make good money and made good money. Really depends which way the big boys want this stock to move these days. After this stock bottoms out (I am thinking this Friday) should be a good opportunity to get back in for a bounce back up. There should be a good and safe 10% to be made after that.

I'm thinking the same, I'm watching closely for a buy opportunity.

They beat Wall Street, they beat their own projections, they sold 10M more iPhones than the same Qtr the previous year. They have $140B Cash in the bank, they are plenty solid.

I'd prefer they fly under the radar and just do what they do best.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on this one and buy some shares. Will see how it goes on Friday.

RIMM may one day be owned by the Chinese Lenovo of China looking at putting in an offer on RIMM.

I think SIRI should be a good play for earnings. My guess on this is that earnings numbers will be good and either the February 16 or March 16,2013 $3.50 look quite Good. Those on teh conservative side may want to stick with the $3 calls or even stay out of calls all together and just stick with shares.

As of today the February 16 $3 calls are at $.16 and March $3 calls are at $.21 while the $3.50 calls are at $.02 for February and $.05 for March

This should be interesting as many seem bullish on this one.

Looks like RIMM is taking a shot at $19 Weekly $18 calls would have been a good buy yesterday as they expire today.

Wouldn't touch it here... you are likely catching a falling knife here today.

AAPL is the next SNE. Great product and top tier for years. Its just gotten so big and hard to have that break-thru OMG hits decade-after decade.

Its gonna be tough to find and resurrect Akio Morita.... or Steve Jobs.. its hasn't happened for SNE, it may not happen for AAPL..

Anyone following NFLX ? Under $100 just a few days ago. Up roughly another 15% today at almost $170

Gene, I know you and I have had heated discussion on "Wabbitt Season" "Duck Season" between the 2 platforms. I want to make it clear that this isn't one of them.

With respect of wherethe or not AAPL should be trading at what it is right now.. at a normal rationa market, the answer is NO! But this sell-off isn't without a just cause. This sell-off isn't a "hype".

To put it simply, a stock price is the present value of the future expected earnings, as well as a reflection of the earnings growth rate. As such, there is a significant doubt (and emotions) on the ability of current AAPL management to continue on the previously determined growth trajectory.

Furthermore, AAPL was "overowned". It was also over weighted in the indices. A let down on the expectation causes a domino effect of people hitting the exit door.

Lastly, the risk of AAPL becoming the next SNE is very real. That is the tough world of the hardware business. One day its HP, next day its IBM, alienware, SNE and AAPL.. that is on top of the electronic world...

I know its tough to see your longterm investment to take a 50% haircut in just a matter a few months... been there many times myself but to win at this Long Term investing game, you need to have a game plan. Are you perfectly comfortable with the shift in pardigm and have a stock like AAPL to change its identity from Growth category to "Dividend and Income" much like MSFT and INTC has transformed in the last 10~15 yrs?

Personally, I love AMZN and am I big fan. But I exited the stock because I couldn't stick around once the "world domination" thesis of AMZN is completed. I probably sold a lil ' early but that is okay.

Hang in there.. and turn off the TVs. The dust will settle but its ugly until that happens. My techincal analyguess show around $389.

BIDU and OXY earnings.. Who is playing here? My guess is that both of their numbers should be good. Let's see if any one of them disappoints

Carl Icahn recently took a big position in Netflix when it was around $80 and not much longer it shot up to $180 and now he just took a big position in Herbalife. Up 12% now who here has the balls to bet on this one with him?
