Whistler xtr-695se

Has anyone used the Whistler xtr-695se radar detector before? I've been reading up on this detector which is only $160 compared to all of the other expensive models from V1 to Escort and this radar does quite well with those higher priced models.

I have the 690se which I believe is quite similar to the 695 except for multi color switchable display. I use it in both my 911 and 535i. No tickets in 3 years with lots of aggressive driving. Fairly sensative with some falsing. I do live in a rural area though with very few radar traps. Hope this helps

So can you lock out false alerts that's in the same area all the time? Have you encountered laser before?

I have no experience with the Whistler, but I have had the same V1 for over 10 years (probably closer to 15 by now) and can honestly say you absolutely get what you pay for. It may be a little more initially, but it has paid for itself so many times I cannot count.

I don't believe you can lock out false alerts. I have not encountered laser.

The passports will let you lock out false alerts. I have the 9500ci installed and it has a smart learn feature that will automatically learn and lockout false alerts. I agree with baymar, you do get what you pay for.

Racingluxury. With the options you have and the mods installed no need to skimp now. One or two tickets saved will make up the difference in price. Go for the best.

I borrowed a $50 Whistler from a friend a very long time ago and got a ticket heading out of town. It didn't alert me at all. I cannot put my trust in that brand at all, and over the years I've been stuck on promoting Escort. I have the 8500 X50, although very old it still keeps me out of trouble. Their newer products are GPS capable and can lock false alarms on regular commutes which is very cool. I don't get too many duds yet, so this one is still a top notch detector.

If you go to many of the websites that test detectors usually the Escort Passport series and the Valentine V1 are ranked the top two. The V1 is great and has a cool feature of telling you the direction you are being hit from. The Passport's have very similar performance to the v1 except the directional alert option. However the 9500 series of Passports, like what Boramkiv said, has the ability to mark false alerts via GPS tracking. I've used many different detectors and I've had the most success with the Passport series. Lidar though is a whole different detection method that is hard to detect and react to. Laser shifting is really the only way to counter lidar but it is illegal in many states to interfere with police lidar.

I got a Passport 8500 as a gift back in 2000. I used it until May 2012. It started to crack and I had to update the software on it twice. It still works great. I got two tickets with it and they were both entirely my fault. I got so used to muting alerts from automatic doors and other false alarms, that I muted the 8500 and got two tickets in the process. I upgraded to the Passport 9500 CI and I have to say that it is the best radar detector (for my needs). False alarms are eliminated after you encounter the same alert in the same exact location three times thanks to GPS. Software is upgraded via USB now. Everything that I wanted to change about the 8500 is now in the 9500CI. Its expensive but its worth it and it just works very well. I've never used a Valentine 1 but I've heard from friends that its awesome but it doesn't have the ability to lock out false alerts like the Passport 9500 CI. I say spend the money and get the 9500 or Valentine 1.
