lol, unfortunately so.. How much do you think is a fair price to drop the trans? I will order my AGA pipe soon, and I guess start figuring how how hard it will be to drop trans

My mechanic quoted 300$ at least!!!
Damn it, but this is the last thing what's left. I really like how my car pulls now, that's why I'm gonna fix it.
It eats rubber like crazy)

$300 isn't too bad.. I have a lift.. I just don't know what all is involved in dropping it.. I know replacing the guibo wasn't the best, but not hard.. all the panels, and I just let the exhaust and driveshaft hang.. but I know all that will have to come out for the trans drop..

It's good for these cars, still hot for "cars".. if this was a MB S class of same year you would be about 10c over running temp..

Hey SF, I am curious about something.. he said above his aux fan kicks in at 96c and cools to 93c.. but I thought it went by the lower hose? So I don't understand how his fan could be coming on.. How could his lower hose be at 66c and rest is at 93c? Not quite sure I understand that unless his lower hose is heating up while car is at lower temps because his tstat is open longer? But that doesn't make since.. does it?

That's nice! What kind of work did you do? Rear cover y/n?
What temps you had before?

When driving tstat opens up early so aux fan kicks in. When idling it won't be controlled by DME, so it should kick in only at 105C and lower hose would be at 65C. To test it when driving isn't that easy if no one checking.
Aux fan kicks in every time lower hose temp is higher than ~ 65C.
I remember when I had no leaks in the city there was 96-98C if 0-5C.
So now you know what's a good temp for e65. So tell everyone with N62 here that I'm not crazy and caused real emergency over something very important!!

No rear cover. But everything else was done. I was 105 the highest. So far the highest my car hit today was 103, but fan kicks in and drop to 93.

All is correct:
Tstat opens up at 103-105 so it drops to 93 when idling??? That's pretty good

Another fan saves the day thread.. Hey SF any update on your rear cover? Are you going to do it? Where in Cali are you? If you weren't too far maybe we could get a deal on doing two..

I'm always afraid when I'm in SF that an earthquake is going to swallow it while I'm there.. For some reason I thought you were in Asia or something.. but I figured I'd ask.. Part of me is tempted to just drop the car off tomorrow at AGA and drop $1,600 on the install, but I can't spend that kind of money on labor that I could do.. I have a feeling my rear seal or valley pan is leaking.. I am sure I'll fix it and the rear plate will go 6mo later.. but I'm keeping my fingers crossed..

Asia??? Hmm do I sound Asian??
Ha ha I'm no darker than you
If I were you I would do the rear plate for this money, bc you have no wheep hole leak, may be vp leak.

Keeping fingers crossed wont do anything, and thinking that rear plate for some miraculous reason is still normal after 10yr ??? It's no different from valley pan, same exact design and is prone to failure. M62 has a crossover pipe, which you can replace easy after intake removal. N62 sucks at this point!!!
Did you know they had e65 with straight 6 M54 and M57 in Europe??? Imagine problem free e65!!! V8, V12 is not very popular there and is expensive.

Hello I too live in east coast in Pennsylvania today its like 65 feels great. Need to ask u said the aux fan kicks on I never seen mine run and my temps are around 102 to 105 and after a long trip and I get to drive way and idle it goes to like 107 for less then minute then goes to 105 and stays there. I did all new hose, aga pipe and thermostat. About 2 weeks ago. Could my aux fan be bad I did all new sensors too oh my car got a clutch fan and it dont spin too fast and I can stop it with hand after an hour trip I see it spin up but not like my escalade that sound like a 747 jet lol thanks again.

Dang one more person says this and Im going for this is the system design.I cant get past this engine has a 105c thermostat thus how can it run in the 90c's and not have a stuck open thermostat?105c dosnt even start to open until over 100c.

You have rear cover plate leak!
Fan clutch is bad too, it activates once engine is 105+
If your engine running at 107+ it means fan clutch died long time ago bc its been working too much all the time.

Bc DME opens it up every time you step on gas. It keeps it at 105 only when idling to keep emissions better and fuel efficiency.

For some "smart" ones here who think aux wp is responsible for cabin heat:

The auxiliary pump's primary role is to provide coolant flow through the cabin heater matrix when the engine is not running or the RPM is low. The pump will run as long as the coolant temperature is above 30C and the heater controls are set to demand heat. With the ignition in position I and II, when the 'REST' button is pressed (as long as the above conditions are met), the auxiliary pump will circulate coolant through the engine block and through the heater matrix. This allows the cabin heater to operate without the engine running. The pump also runs when the engine is running as long as the above conditions are met.The pump ensures good coolant flow through the matrix.
The pump does not aid engine cooling, its purpose is purely to serve the cabin heater.
