Swapping GM Transmission
Wow! this forum is huge! My first post so Hello All.
My GM 5L40E Tranny is playing up on my 2000 330D. Seems the forward drive clutch is stuck as it will try and go forwards in every position. Have checked and cleaned the solenoids, changed the oil twice and the filter, all without result. I'm resigned to swapping out the tranny. Does anyone know if a tranny from any other model fits, or only from another 330D? The GM tranny is very adaptable and if the mechanical bits join up (bellhousing, crank etc) then it should go. Any knowledgable suggestions please? The car's only worth £1500 so I'm not going to spend a fortune. Thanks in advance.

This is a (predominantly) US-based forum. BMW never sold diesel E46s over here, so they are pretty much unknown to this forum. Maybe one of our Euro members has an answer for you....good luck !
