Debating a trunk mod

I was debating doing a mod to the trunk area of my 2010 328i.

Their is a space under the trunk which is sort of like a bonus space as their is no tire. I am not sure if they normally have a fabric liner as I have seen in some pictures but mine is a hard plastic tub.

I have not unbolted/screwed the tub yet to see the backside because the elements around me are cold, snowy and salty but I was wondering what was on the other side of the tub. The reason I ask is because I was debating to bolt something to the sidewall of the tub but I obviously dont want water/salt/dirt leaking into the tub from the sprays of driving around. Is their another liner below this tub or am I to the exterior of the vehicle past this point?

I mean I could just seal around the bolt holes but who wants more work when you don't have to?

Spoken like a true slackard!

If you were paying someone to do this mod, would you accept any hole into the body NOT being sealed?

Sealing it becomes a difference of having it capable of being exposed to the elements or not. Something that gets exposed to salt, water, dirt is going to need different components and sealers then something that is not because corrosion becomes a big issue. It was to give an idea of the scale of the job. Drilling and bolting with some Loctite to seal is a lot easier then sourcing out parts you plan to abuse in the elements for many years to come. Right parts for the right job is where I was headed. I guess that makes me a Slackard :/

Y'know, Zeaken, there are electronics for this and that as well as a honkin' big battery in the trunk.
