Help with Fault Code

I already changed my thermostat with a Wahler tstat roughly two months ago and cleared all codes.

I agree was an easy fix.

My thermostat was a Wahler also. I replaced it just a couple of months ago. I cleared the code and drove 100 miles today to trade the car in. The code was back by then. Car ran perfect though.

I feel ya on this, Ive got a 2004 and have practically done every maintenance repair (except "weeping leak)
it's got 117k miles and I just need to make 2 more payments to have my payoff amount equal the trade value
and then I'm trading in for a newer ('07-up) 534i model. Luv the car but it's not fun to drive anymore after all the constant repairs.

holy smokes brother it appears your lower radiator hose is as cold as ice (coolant output temp shows whether the stat is open.. does that temp climb as you are idling at a standstill at all??)
usually by then the tstat is somewhat open and fully open by 105 w/ stock tstat IIRC
maybe sf can chime in here with his knowledge of this cars temps

I haven't seen it go higher than 105, then back down to 101 as I pull off.

Pulling off the dme will open the stat, how hot does it get when idling is the big question

I'll have to keep a closer eye on it.. so far I've seen 105

as long as when it idles and reaches 105, and the fan kicks in and it drops back down to lower 100s its fine IIRC, its when it idles and climbs to 107 and lowers and has a hard time staying down at idle is when you have an issue there is what i got from the long cooling system thread

So how would I get that lower hose temp higher?

The lower stat sf has going in if youre not leaking.
chances are there is some problem in your system if it reaches higher. your other temp isnt at 105 so the lower hose being cold is okay to an extent but i thought the stat should be partially open at 101 maybe im wrong. ive never seen my lower hose that cold at idle.
im not saying for sure as you really have to let the car idle for a long time.. takes me 20+ mins of idling after driving to reach 105.. but its been snowing here and its cold atm etc.
watch the temp at idle, when it reaches 105 if all is okay it should drop down alot after fan kicks in (the higher temp) and the lower hose temp should rise. iirc sf said fan kicks in at lower hose temp of 65-70.

I'll definately have to keep an eye on it then, if it goes over 105 then I might hv some issues to worry about.

So this morning, it got to 105 and stayed there during idle at every light. I didn't see it drop until I started moving again. It quickly went down to 101/102. Even on the highway it was 100/101/102. Didn't go past 105, maybe I wasn't idling long enough.

Pull in your driveway after a decent drive and idle for 20 mins. When it reaches 105 it should drop fast because stat should be fully open and then lower hose temp raises and the fan will kick in, air and or leaks will stop the system from working the way it is supposed to

It takes me about 20-25mins to get home, mostly local driving. I'll leave the car to idle for 20 minutes after I get in. I'll post what I find.

One other thing I should mention, I suspect my alternator is dying a slow death. Could this have any affect any of the temp sensors and anything else related to this?

The sensors should read okay til there is a real under voltage problem thats when everything goes crazy and lights up your dash

Update:
Drove home in stop and go traffic.. temp reach 105/103/102.. got home and left her running for over 30 minutes, peaked at 105 then dropped to 102 and held steady for majority of the time. Screenshot of INPA during the idle time.

While we're on the topic of fault codes I found this tonight... can someone tell me what it means?

The temps are ok but id recommend the custom tstat when available.
Those are can bus errors i dont know what those are about though
