E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135. |

Frameless windows on series 1 US models
Are all US models of the series 1 built with frameless door windows?

I can't speak for all of them, but I know mine is.

I reside in the land of ice and snow. I'd rather deal with framed windows than continually chipping ice out of the gaskets, etc.

I believe it's just the 3-door 1-series and the convertible/coupé versions that have frameless windows. As I recall the 5-door 1-series has framed windows.

My understanding is that the 5-door models were never sold in USA.

It's just the coupé and convertible, which means -> Frameless windows. |

Carry a cup of water out with you and pour it over window before opening the door, no chipping ice involved.

Framed doors are a requirement. Since they are not available in the US 1-series, I'll take a look at the 3-series sedans. |

A viable long term solution is to get a garage.

..and to never remove the car from it.
I live in snow country. I own a garage. I've driven a frameless-door coupe for years. I know appropriate technology and techniques to deal with snow, ice, doors and windows. If I'm spending my money on a new BMW, I'd like to avoid the models with frameless doors. I've asked a technology question, "do any US 1-series have framed doors?" The question has been answered, "No." Thank you for the very prompt and helpful information. I now know the 1-series isn't an option for me, and I'm looking at the possibilities in the 3-series. |
