I just bought a 2001 528i and have noticed that I am only getting air flow out of the floor vents regardless of the direction setting I.E defrost or main vents. Even when I select high defrost I still only have air flow onto the floor section. Any and all ideas will be welcomed.

Do you have the IHKR panel? If yes, the center knob, which Bently calls the air distribution control is disconnected from the Bowden cable. Bentley says "Bowden cables attach it to the air distribution flaps in the IHKR housing". Hence, you may have a cable failure or it has disconnected somehow. The instructions for removing the IHKR panel are:
"1. Remove switch panel below IHKR panel 2. Push out IHKR control panel by reaching through switch panel opening 3. Disconnect electrical harness connectors 4. Disconnect Bowden cables from back of panel CAUTION - Note color coding of Bowden cables. When reinstalling, reattach cables to correct control levers." |

I just purchsed a 535i. My air flows from all vents, however, the air is warm. Even when it is cool outside, the air is still warm. Are there others with the same problem? Dealership told me that the design of the air flow intake near the engine is the cause and it is the new normal. Am I the only one or is it the new normal?
