Soft close doors are available

While my local dealer was doing a locate to try and find a car for me, he came across a 650GC with soft close doors listed as an option. It's not listed anywhere in the ordering info, but I have a fax from him with the options list and it is there. I will post the fax...

i have been trying to convince my dealer to help me get soft close doors and no luck so far. he says just like coupes the gran coupe will not get soft close in first model year.

please keep us informed if you do get soft close doors on GC.

I received confirmation from my dealership's Sales Manager this morning:

"BMW NA as of November 9th came with mid -year production change which is effective January 3, 2013 and soft close doors has become a stand alone option."

They gave me the option of passing on my GC, which is now on a boat, and re-ordering for a January/February production slot. While I'd like soft-close doors, I'm going to stick with my current order and just bitch about it for the next 24 months. Ha.

No other changes? Just soft close doors? It's still odd that the above car is already on a lot though.

I was told that the option can now be added to builds, but it will push the build back to January.

Yeah, I am not worried about it that much. It would be nice to have, but not something I would wait for.

Just went to the bmwusa build site, it seems like they updated it. It doesn't have soft close doors yet, but it does work a whole lot better than it used t.

I noticed that (about the site), too. It was nice of my dealership to offer me an out and rebuild, but like you, I don't think it's worth waiting for. (Plus, I want to get my 2012 CCA rebate, as I plan to use the 2013 CCA rebate on my wife's replacement vehicle.)

when you say starting jan 3rd does that mean cars made into production after jan 3rd?

That's what I was told, yes.

i think skipping that option is the only way for me because my ED pick up date is second week of Jan.

ask your CA if he can modify your built for Soft Close doors. my dealer did it for me and its not pushing the production date either.

Mine was already built when the announcement was made. No worries, though. I should be taking delivery by the end of the month.

The soft close automatic option can be retrofitted if you missed it or forgot to add.

My 2013 650i GC came with soft close!!
