Suspension shake/shudder

I've had this problem with my 84 318i since i got it. It shakes/shudders when I go over 45-50mph and also when braking around the same speed. The rubber bushings are pretty shot and the shop where I got my tires last year said I might need tie rods. Does anyone think that could be it???
Tax time and I'm thinking of buying both any ideas on some good parts that aren't super expensive. I saw Bavauto had a "Front susp. kit-JL Germany. It has control arms w/ bushings, Lft and Rt. tie rods and sway bar links all for $220. Does this sound good?

Good or not, it sounds like you need them! Price the same parts at the stealer and decide. Also ask yourself 'How long did the originals last? Is that good value?'. Hope your repairs go well.

$220 for all that? i spent that on control arms and bushing alone. sounds like a killer deal or a misprint

It might also be a good idea to have your drive shaft inspected/balanced. If they aren't perfect they will create plenty of shakes.

Were your control arms and upgrade or just a replacment? What should I expect for the $220, should they be performance or just replacement?? I was thinking about skipping the control arms and just getting the tie rods, bushings, and stabilzer and sway bar links for now. How do you know when you need control arms???

Get the whole set, and buy quality or your money will be wasted. Lemforder or Meyle. I went the cheap route and had to replace everything AGAIN less than a year later. Expect to pay ~$400 for the arms, tie rods, drop links and all the bushings for the front end.

Wanted to buy a sway bar links but there is also stabilzer bar links. Is a sway bar and a stablizer bar the same thing? Also looking at sway bar bushings but i don't know how long the sway bar is. It's not in the manual. Does anybody know how long a stock swaybar is?

The correct terminology is "Anti sway-bar" & you get different diameters on the E30.
Stabiliser bar is the rail on the pub counter you can hold onto when....
