Heater Fan on all the time

After 18 months off the road I've plugged a new battery into my 525 Diesel M sport 2002 to find the heater fan is on all the time even with the ignition turned off and the key removed. I ws going to remove the fuse 76 until I had a bit more information to find the problem but cant even find that. When the car is running the fan cant be adjusted.

Any help to find fuse 76 and to identify what has gone wrong here would be very much appreciated.

Sounds like you gave a bad final stage blower resistor. It's behind right kick panel, towards center console

Search FSU and you will have everything you need to know about this problem.

But, read Fudman's comments in that thread (which I agree with) that you're better off pulling the FSU than pulling fuse F76 in most cases.

Thanks very much, a new Fsu is now on order. Just one more question; I'm a little confused where the Fsu is on a right hand drive car, there seems to be conflicting information as to which kick panel it is.

There are pictures of the exact location of the FSU on right-hand-drive cars in the canonical FSU thread (which I think the ECU team pointed you to).

Check there first (I have LHD so I can't help other than to point you to where the answer lies).

So having part done the job I'd thought I'd add some extra info that may help others.

Firstly the FSU is located on the drivers side so the pedals create an extra challenge to access it. I also removed the panel that sits above the pedals, its impossible to access otherwise.

And Lastly the part I'd ordered because it is listed for the 2002 525 M was the wrong one. mine is 64118383835.

I was just now looking up the diagnostic resistance of the FSR when I realized pictures of the RHD vehicle FSR locations were already in the FSR threads, e.g.,
- Where is the FSU on European UK spec right hand drive (RHD) vehicles (1) (2) (3)

Having been chastised by Bluebee for not providing a picture when requested, if I can offer the excuse that the car has been at the body shop for a new front bumper so unavailable for shots.

More interestingly I've used an ABS plastic pattern bumper which cost a most reasonable £129 from ebay including the extra plastic parts for the fog lights and bump strip the PDCs are mounted in. I was a little worried about fixing and quality versus an OEM part but can report it really is very good and exactly the same as the original BMW part. I'll post a picture over the next few days as no doubt de riguer :-). Link to ebay part as below.
