Headsup / Dashboard..

How cool is the heads up and how hard is it to remove and replace a dash board.

It is a very ugly process, I don't see anything online that expressless outlines dash removal for either the e60 or our car. But in TIS it shows that EVERYTHING has to come out of the front, center, and some from the back!

roof pillar trim
steering column stalks
instrument cluster
all the vents
light switch
all the stips and covers around the steering
idrive screen
under trip for pedals

-remove handsfree speaker
-un hook SOS phone system (causes fault that must be reset)
-footwell lights

remove center storage, this means rear seat, rear cupholder first
remove glovebox
center speaker
passenger airbag
start stop switch
audio controller
CCC unit
knee airbag

You get the idea!

Someone mentioned they thought the windshield glass was different. Do you know if that's true?

Yes, cars with HUD have a different windshield to prevent a "double" image reflection. And yes, to remove the dash you're pretty much taking out the whole front interior apart (I'm a bmw tech)

Thanks for confirming. As I thought upgrading to HUD requires a new car

Swapping the dashboard is pretty simple (4-hour job) & the HUD requires the LCM with an HUD switch as well. Let me know if you guys have any questions, as I have done this on 3 M6 already. I am also selling everything you would need to do this install as well...lol

Is the 4 hours for someone who has done it three times and well practiced or for someone who is stumbling through it for the first time?

it would take you 6-hours max in your first try. There are a bunch of small screws & then 8 bolts hold the dash on.
