Dropoff in Vienna?

Has anyone dropped off in Vienna? My understanding is that they drive the cars back to Munich...not sure I'm comfortable with that so looking for advice on whether to go with that or return to Munich at the end of our trip. Thanks!

Yes indeed.

Rich Z did a Vienna drop off. No problems reported.

Not sure why you would think the cars are driven to Munich. Cars are trucked from all dropoff locations (except Italy) to a port.

Smooth as could be...

I dropped off in Vienna in December. My car needed to go back to Munich for a repair...it was there two days later. As mentioned, the cars are not driven, but trucked.

We dropped off in Vienna last September. The office gals said the car was trucked to Hamburg, then to Bremerhaven. They emailed me the ships' name as requested. Probably just lucky, but we picked up our car in Santa Barvara seven weeks after drop off.

BTW, we took a river cruise from Vienna to Nuremburg. Drop off office is about three miles from the pier.

What's lucky, that you got the car back in 7 weeks or that you had a good experience with Vienna dropoff?

I dropped off in Vienna last November. Piece of cake, but you'll have to take a cab back to the city though. I can't remember how many euros it was, I think like 25.

The lucky part was getting the car to the west coast in only seven weeks. That's the shortest time in three ED's.

The only problem I had with the Vienna drop off is that my nav system sent me one entrance past the true entry. I think that photos of the entrance have since been posted. I also found that the email contact at Auto Service Wien was helpful in finding out which ship the car would be on.

Do I need to contract Auto Service Wien and arrange the drop myself or should BMW be doing that?

It would be best if you make contact with them by email, and let them know when you will be dropping it off. The email address is on the Wiki under the section "Getting your BMW back to the US." I see that it addresses the nav issue that I mentioned as well.

Maybe it's just me being high maintenance but it's getting a bit frustrating that I have to find all this out myself instead of the dealer informing me.

Sent an email to autoservicce wien yesterday. My CA and I are, of course, still waiting on a response from BMW Canada coordinator guy about who organizes dropoff and what docs I will need....the dude there is useless.

I guess that's what you get when the company assigns a guy with the title "Sales Operations - Analyst, Fleet" to coordinate your ED program. Doesn't BMW USA have actual people called ED Coordinators?

Vienna Drop Off

Here are some of the shots I took of the Vienna drop off entrance. The Autoservice Wien office sign is visible only after you enter, not from the street. BTW, Google thinks the car wash nearby at Handelskai 388 has closed. Anyway, I found the wash bay also had a one euro coinop wand sprayer at the entrance. I just used the sprayer and then backed my baby outta there to avoid the scary clearcoat eating brush rollers . . .

Turn in here:

Show your paperwork to the guy in the hut and he'll open the gate.

Then drive straight ahead and you'll see this:

Wait here until another Fester such as Neutron145 shows up and share a cab back to the city . . .

Thanks jpt. This is helpful, or would have been.

I received word today that BMW Canada charges $800 for all drop offs outside of Germany. BMW USA sure as hell doesn't charge this.

Of course nobody at BMW Canada told me or the dealership that this was a requirement at any point up until now. Luckily I haven't lost any money because of this. But now it looks like we'll have to drop off in Munich and fly to Vienna. So that is going to add a few hundred bucks.

BMW Canada need to get their shizt together. I sure hope more care goes into the production of my car than has gone into helping me and the dealership navigate the ED process...

Check AirBerlin for flights. It looks as though you can get a non-stop for under $150pp, but maybe it does not include taxes. You might also look at train service. You would think it would be cheaper and also it should save you a taxi at the Vienna end.

Thanks I'll look into it.

I was pissed about the $800 charge I found out about so late but now that I think about it, it'll be nice to not have to worry about parking and stuff.

Has anyone dropped off at Vienna location recently? Are they driving your car to the port or the car being loaded on the truck? Where is the port they are going to? Is it going to take much longer time to return to California if I drop off at Vienna instead of Munich?

Thanks.

Dropped off in Vienna two months ago. They are not driving the car AFAIK, they truck it. Above pics are correct still.

Here's our experience from April. According to the staff at the location, the car is trucked from Vienna to Salzburg to Munich to Hamburg and finally to Bremerhaven. We dropped off on April 19 and the car left Bremerhaven on May 8. Total redelivery time to NJ took 8 weeks, including 1 week in the VPC to repaint the front bumper. Based on previous experiences of dropping off in Munich and Frankfurt, it appears that the drop off in Vienna added approximately 1 to 1.5 additional weeks.

I would like to include your drop off (in Vienna) dates in the pdf which can be found in the "Folks that have dropped off - are you on a ship yet?" thread in the European Delivery Forum here on Bimmerfest. You have included almost all the information that we are collecting. The only things that are missing are:

The name of the ship:
Date your car left the ship in New Jersey:
Date your car was re-delivered in New Jersey or PCD (if you did PCD):

In addition it would be great if you can supply:

Date released from Customs:
Date released from VPC:

If it's OK with you I appreciate any of the missing info that you may have. Vienna drop-offs are rare!
