plizz help 2002 bmw x5 4.4i should i change my Trany fluid

i just got my x5 few days ago. the car is super clean, also runs super good. trany shift very very smooth and nice, now i wonder should i change trany fluid because the car has 100K or not to even touch it. some people say dont touch it, its life time, some people say you have to do it every 50K some people say you have to do it every 100K, i dont even know any more. million people million different answers. so i want to see what really BMW owners say, and what expiriantes you guy have...

Have it changed at an independent mechanic shop so that they change all the fluid, and not just 40% of it.
Change the filter too. Use this fluid based on the sticker on the bottom of your pan and you will be happy:

No, it shouldn't mess it up. It's just scheduled maintenance like an oil change. Lifetime fluid in BMW terms is 100,000 miles, but in reality lifetime fluid means that the fluid will last a lifetime but the tranny will not. That's hilarious to me.

I replaced the fluid in my 2001 @ 108K miles. I drove it to 126K miles before trading it in on my current X5. Never had a single problem with the transmission. My opinion is there's no such thing as a lifetime fluid and therefore feel replacing it at 100K miles is more than reasonable.

I've read the opposing points of view but, aside from being theoretical in nature, I have not seen any statistics to show a correlation with replacing the transmission fluid in a high mileage X5 and failure of the transmission. My indy mechanic, who has been working on german vehicles for decades, has not observed any correlation either.

Now you have a million and one opinions

I have been thinking along the same line, I had a Range Rover with 160K and thought it would be a good idea to change the fluid, perfect before change, never was the same again after, so I am kind of wary with the x5 but don't believe in lifetime fluid.

yes, 160k is too much, and i tough the same way but people say, if is not too high of mileage, you can do it. so 100K should be ok. i will take a risk. the hole life is a risk so i will try this thank you for your feed back davie F

The thought process of changing it at too high a mileage is sludge / debris has accumulated and a fluid change carries the possibility of dislodging it and clogging the various orifices. IMO you've got sludge / debris build up it's better to change the fluid than not.

My thought is those who experienced problems after changing the fluid either had problems prior to the fluid change or the change was done incorrectly.

I am convinced it would be the right thing to do, I just had the car service by a local indy I have used for years but they would not touch the transmission, thought about Bavaria auto werk in Aberdeen who are a german car specialist, anyone had any dealings with them. By the way my gearchange is very smooth and does not hold onto gears it just changes at the right time but the power delivery of the line can be very instant if you do not watch what you are doing.
