Secondary air pump/injection system on N52

Hi,

On all the cars I've owned, typically, there is a secondary air pump and valve(s) to control the secondary air injection - to speed up the warm up process during first minute of cold start.

I am not able to locate secondary air pump or or related hoses on N52B30 ('06 530i). Do any of you know where the secondary air pump is? I already went thru RealOem site and I looked thru TIS, none of them show secondary air pump.

They dropped the secondary air pump on the N62 for the X5 also. There is none on the E60 N52. My guess is the combination of the charcoal filter above the intake muffler and an advanced fuel preparation system.

I am not sure how the charcoal filter (inside the air filter box) helps warm up faster. What fuel preparation are you referring to? (just trying to understand)

Well that was a guess because the secondary air pump injects fresh air into the the exhaust stream for better emissions. Turns out I just learned the exact reason why the N52 doesn't have a pump. I'm living in the past because we have catalytic converters now (which I knew but didn't think about).
