Which tires are the best for X5

Hello Bimmer pundits, can anyone please help me in choosing the right tires for my BMX-X5 (2004) model. Originally they came with Michellin Energy MXV4 plus (255/55/R18). I have never tried any other tires other than Michellin. Since the MXV4 plus are either out of stock or back ordered. Some say they are discontinued.

My question is, Can I go with Bridgestone Turanza or any other tire vendor? Which tire vendor is the best? Online reviews for Michellin Vs other vendors is confusing. Appreciate your input in this regard.

Tire choices is like finding a mate/spouse/etc...there is not enough info in your brief post to really recommend a tire. We don't know you or your personal preferences, what continent you live on, where you drive, how you drive, what weather conditions you drive in. We also don't know what's important to you in a tire...ride, handling, price, tread life, mileage warranty. etc. What if you want a summer tire, or an all season tire...or perhaps you want a 2 tire (spring/summer/fall & winter) set-up.

Take the time to do some research that at least narrows your search down to a type & a few brands. Then at least you can ask forum members their impressions of they type/brand you're considering. To come out of the blue with a tire recommendation from someone that lives in Florida versus someone that lives in Minnesota can give you completely different recommendations.

I just put a second set of Toyo Open Country tires.

My driving is a mix of what the northwest offers (freeway, city, out finding trails, and the mountain). Got 50k out of their 40k tires, and they now have a 60k tire for the same price.

Sort of depends on where you drive and what you want to do.

Just installed Continental DWS Extreme Contacts. Awesome tire and the ride quality is smoother than the previous Michelins. Work great in the rain and snow.

I too like the Continental DWS Extreme Contacts. Nice tires, good handling, good ride.

A Michelin tyre with the star sign clearly shown on the tyre wall is the best you can put on your x5, according to BMW, but they're expensive. I'm using Hancook, a Korean tyre, very thick and strong for all conditions. My cars handling is superb on these tyres, and cost $375AUD each. The engineers at my BMW service centre also like them, and after 3 years and 30000kms, are wearing well.

Friends, thanks for all your responses. I live in NJ and I am looking for all season tires. The OEM tires for my X-5 were Michellin Energy MXV4 plus. I am a simple plain driver and not looking for any extras...

I have an 2005 X5 4.8is and have ran Michelin for the 1st 4 years. But I found that they were too soft & wear out way too soon, especially the rears. So I went to Continental DWS Extreme. They handle great & wear way better & were half the cost. I also reseached this for quite some time before I purchased them. The OEM spare tire was Continental too when I purchase the car from the dealer.

I put on General Grabber UHP and am very happy with them, great in the wet.

Just an alert however, check to see if they have a mileage warranty. Michelin's didn't for the larger tires. My Continental DWS Extreme had 50,000 miles.
