NEED HELP! Fault Code P0740 ON A 96 750IL

So right when i take my car to the smog shop the deadly "check engine light" comes on and fails the test. The code is p0740 "torque converter circuit/open". After doing some research and getting opinions it seems like im gonna have to change or replace my torque converter. Is any positive that this is what needs to be done? If so, im pretty handy with cars and i am confident i can do the repair myself. Is there anyone out there that know a link of where i can get the steps of doing it myself?

Long story EXTREMELY short. 2001 740il Bought a used tranny that had nice fluid in it. installed it with the torque converter and new tc seal. filled it with VIN NUMBER MATCHED Febi Bilstien GERMAN ATF. first test drive was awesome. second test drive my torque converter was not locking up, and the SES light came on. Scanned it. 0740 code, went to the shop had them plug into the MEGA computer. Code was Gear Slip and TCC. he said most likely replace the torque converter due to the seal going bad internally. basically what happens is as the tranny sends fluid to the TC, it has to build up pressure to lock up. If that internal seal is blown, then all the pressure slips by and back into the tranny NEVER allowing the TC to lock up. Other theories Ive read are the solenoid, which seems to not be the fix in most cases, damaged valve body, low line pressure, and of course BAD TC. So, im going to spend another several hours researching before I pull the tranny back out (EASY) and install a rebuilt TC and new $15 input shaft seal.
