Hi All, getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2013 740li, I did a quick search of the forums and only saw 1 person buying one (august 2012) and then they switched the order up to a 750. I was curious about our collective thoughts on the 740li, I am trying to stay at/under 1k a month (already told the 740 will keep me under the 1k mark) and I believe that rules out the possibility of bumping to the 750. My other option is doing a fully loaded 550ix (with the family and wife who loves the 740, the 550 is less an option than the 740, but nevertheless an option...) V/r, Tim.

Have you driven a 740? They're fast. I test drove one when I had my E93 M3, and I was pleasantly surprised. It felt faster than it had a right to, and I think anything up to 60mph and both 7 series cars will be relatively similar in performance. One thing about the 750 I don't like - slow throttle response. Not sure if that afflicts the 740 - may be worth a try. In San Francisco, I doubt you'll ever feel you need a 750.

The 740 is more than adequate (surprisingly so) - but the 750 is exhilarating in comparison. All depends on your style...

I would tell them its a big purchase for you, and that you normally drive your potential cars around your regular route to get an adequate fell of the entire car's characteristics.
Take it home, drive it to work and back, to the grocery store, etc. Honestly its a rather large purchase, a 5 minute 2 mile test drive isn't adequate for a 75k+ car. Acceleration from your stop lights, cornering around your streets. I've found its more than adequate, certainly no slouch. Just definitely wouldn't win any stoplight races. Its ~400lbs lighter than the 750, but down 120hp from the V8. I personally aren't in love with the exhaust note, nothing bad, just always have grown up around V8s and this is my first non-8 Cylinder vehicle. Good luck!

FYI............ @ OP.........the 740i deal is AMAZING NOW... You can easily be below $1,000 a month with a $0 drive off......... the $3,500 lease cash covers that. 740 is a good daily driver, doesn't have thrust of 750, but a great overall car, plus gas savings is better.

I swap back and forth between my F10 M5 and my wife's 740i and the swap is not as painful as you might think. I'm highly impressed with the 740i and think it's more than adequate in performance and quite punchy in Sport mode.

Thanks for the help all, I have a test drive set up for Wednesday, @chrisf02, I will try that tactic, although being a new customer, and one that isn't buying from them, I think they may be hesitant to throw me the keys, although I will try!

Hi All, did my long test drive today, I'm set, that sealed the deal for me. It looks like when we get ready to order it will be the '14 as we are planning for September ED now (ordering in June). I have to say the 740 felt in no way underpowered (not discounting anyone's experiences), we hit the freeway, I had my polarized Maui Jim's on so I couldn't see the heads-up very well, I had the feeling we were going about 70 and I tilted my head to bring the heads-up display into view, 110 was showing, I thought, yeppp.... this is the car for me. Can't wait now, this is going to be a killer just waiting to even order it.. FML!
