Illuminated door sill light

Has anyone had their door sill light go out?? Half of my drivers side sill light is out. Is it just a bulb or does the whole sill have to be replaced?

Both my "BMW" sections went out in early December. Left and rogh tof BMW still ok. While in for service early this month they ordered whole sills. Came in last week and yet to schedule the install.

As an interesting note, the orange pixels don't seem to last very long compared with what is used in Individual cars. BMW Individual cars, like mine, don't use them. My door sills are illuminated in white; they don't look like pixel "things" and haven't burnt out after one year so far.

Mine are still going strong. I suspect weak bulbs/LEDs whatever they are can happen.

I remember someone posting that their reverse lights burned out. BMW had to remove the rear bumper to replace the bulbs.

...Yeah

My driver-side illumination sill faded away (1 Month ago) and I had BMW change it. It is bright as ever! I should have asked the dealer to change the passenger-side since its illumination is dimmer compared to the drivers-side.

Oh well, I sit on the driver-side 100% of the time.

See attached on the door sill. All 6ers have it standard in the US.

I don't understand why it would fail so quickly. Mine failed at about two years after getting my car. But, it's not like I stomped on the door sill. I got the driver's side replaced, and now I'm getting the passenger side replaced.

In addition to that, I'm getting my rear view mirror replaced because the tinting on it has slowly gone away.

Have any of you seen the Illuminating door sills for a E46 for a 2door coup? I had a wild Idea to buy the 6 series sill's and hot wire them to work. I have a feeling I it can fit into place even if I have to drill a few holes with the clips may be off set from the original holes. And then maybe and some caulk to seal it up. I think it's a good idea lol Anyway I called the Dealer and for the Illuminating door sills for a 6 series is $166.00 each. The price is pretty good. I mean I seen ones for my car that don't look as good go for $500.00 for both. Well if any of u got any ideas or know of a site or even support this idea, I would be glad to hear from you.

yeah, good idea! Realoem. Com has them for $155.00 + shipping, so your dealer is better on price. If you feel confident enough that you can install them yourself - go for it. Looks amazing (at night)

Half of my passenger side is out and the drivers side could stand to be a little brighter...did anyone figure out if the whole sill has to be replaced or can we just replace a bulb?

Actually they're Luminescent tape. There is a DIY on the M6 forum. I think Zerodks1 did the repair.

I think the retro is very difficult as the connectors are a B#$ch to get to or install.
