1984 533i ICV
Hello. I'm in need of a idle control valve for my 1984 533i. Please PM me if you have one for sale or know someone that does. Thanks in advance.

have you tried cleaning yours?? what makes you think it needs to be replaced??

Yes, I tried cleaning it twice. When I bought the car it was idling a bit high. I found a drilled piece of wood inside the hose that attaches to the icv. When i took it out it would idle up and down. Recently I replaced the fuel filter and inline fuel pump and now it idles rich. Disconnecting the icv and O2 sensor made no difference. No fuel comes out from vacuum line of fuel pressure regulator. Disconnecting the coolant temp sensor and oil dipstick made a difference. At this point I think the ICV s bad. Thanks for responding.

well, what makes you believe the car is running rich at idle?? the icv will not affect that so much unless it chokes the car at idle. in which case it would have a low idle and probably nto remain running or idle poorly.
have you checked the conditon of the plugs, as well as the fuel pressure?? i believe there are 2 fuel pumps on this chassis, but the overall fuel pressure to the fuel rail is what you check first. if it is out of spec then you would go from there to see what would be the cause. many fuel pressure regulators tend to fail in the high position as well. df

At the moment the car idles poorly (especially when cold), I can smell fuel from the muffler and the smoke is black. Replaced spark plugs with new news when I bought car. Before I replaced the fuel filter and pump the idle was higher and no black smoke. I have not tested any fuel pressure or the regulator. Thanks for your time.

You also have a cold start valve that is known for leaking. Check it carefully and check or replace your vacuum hoses as well, they all deteriorate over time.

Thanks. I also replaced the cold start valve after I bought vehicle. Only replaced vacuum hose that attaches to fuel regulator. It's weird because all (but high idle) was working fine before I replaced fuel filter and pump. Like I said, now has low idle, burning rich and takes a long time to warm up. Why the PO placed the drilled wooden piece inside hose that attaches to ICV?
