Multiple errors at once (safety/transmission...)
Hi to all
Yesterday was rainy day here and my wife was driving when all these errors showed up: -Safety system error -Airbag and Restraint system error -Transmission Fail -Transmission failsafe mode -When engine is off, gear position P is engaged automatically -N is only possible when engine is running -Transportation mode -Parking breake error (after using it) + windscreen wipers didnt stop from lever She could drive the car to home. -Buttons wont work in Steering wheel -Windscreen vipers doesnt work -Steering wheel adjust doesnt work -Horn doesnt work so I replaced new AGM 90AH battery today and recoded it with INPA, but no help. Alternator seems to work --> steady 14.4-14.5volts when driving I tried to clear errors and these keep coming back: (INPA with carsoft 6.5box) i have read that i cant do everything when using carsoft box) DME/DDE 282C 64 EGS 5147 68 DSC 5EF4 E0 ENF D3BD E8 & 6040 E1 CIM D989 64 KOMBI A3A9 60 LM E53E 20 I have had problems with CD Navigator rebooting itself sometimes before, but everything else has worked well. 745iA 2002 and about 90 000miles Last edited by jassoo; 11-26-2011 at 06:36 AM. |

Interesting!!!
So sounds like water got into the dme box. First check if there is water or smth, bc sounds like you have a swimming pool there!! You have abs dsc lights on as well??? Water in the abs sensor connector? |

Hi
Ok, I checked box where DME and 2 other modules are and it was dry, not even moisture. I also checked all fuses from glovebox, trunk and from module from same box where DME is located --> all OK. I did get one more fail code after test drive (OMG ) :ZGM module (Gateway Module) 932A BYTEFLIGHT Communication Error and yes I have abs dsc lights on Last edited by jassoo; 11-26-2011 at 10:01 AM. |

Sounds like alternator problems to me; I had what appeared to be the same problem. The only thing I would suggest is to take the alternator out have a load test placed on it. There is a high failure rate on this type of alternator, I think you may find that's the problem. If it fails, you can find a remanufactured one on eBay for around $250. The one I have is the 180 amp Bosh water cooled. Make sure you get the right one they make a 150 also. After I replaced it she ran great. When it comes to voltage these cars are very fussy. You can also go to RealOEM.com type in your last seven digits of the vin model of your BMW and it will list all the parts for that vehicle. This is the company I bought the alternator from. USA Industries Remanufactured Alternator. Good Luck.

I found this on another forum:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lack300 wrote: 2003 745i. washed car last weekend, literally moved it from the garage 20ft washed it then went to start it and 4 errors appeared on screen. 1. Drive control Syst.em! Drive Moderatly. Drive control System Failure. 2. When engine is off, Gear position P is Engaged Automatically. 3. Gearbox Functions Impared. Possible risk of Gearbox Failure! 4. Function of Airbags, Belt tension Limiters Faulty. Ensure your seat belt is Fastned. error codes: 282c CANSZL signal failure 5147 CAN Time-out SZL 5EF4 Steering Angle Sensor: Control Unit Internal Ecu Type: GS19 Part number 7534929 Hardware number 40 software number 03 coding number 00 Diagnosis index (Hex) 0200 i can Reveal that now i have done further Testing, i have no steering adjustment, wipers not working, Adaptive cruise not working and so on, volume for radio, as there seems to be no power getting to the Steering wheel what so ever. as for fuses i think i have checked the relevent ones. and all seems fine. Turned out to be the fibre optic Modul behind the fuse box. gateway module ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this seems to be exactly same problem that I have and same error codes. is it central gateway module (ZGM) or some other gateway module? link the module he was talking about was located behind the fuse box Last edited by jassoo; 11-27-2011 at 05:47 AM. |

Update
I changed ZGM (gateway module) and programmed it. Now i can read all modules and error codes, except byteflight-BUS. Every module in byteflight-BUS is giving error "module not found" incl. SIM-module (Safety information module) which communicates with all airbag satellite modules and ZGM. Now i know why my wipers are not working and fuel pump goes like grazy ![]() example how wiper signal goes in car. SWS = Wiper lever SWA = Wiper motor SWS <--> SZL <-byteflight-> SIM <-byteflight-> ZGM <-K CAN S-> WIM <--> SWA So when SIM (safety information module) is broken there are many other modules which cant communicate with ZGM, but still they have nothing to do with safety devices. So I ordered a SIM-module also

ok now the new SIM module is changed and programmed.
all other errors cleared and everything started to work, but I still get error from SIM "93AC system time faulty" does anyone know what that means? |

I had exactly that problem with all those exact faults. It was the ZGM(Gateway Module) that was faulty. Check your ZGM first, it is in the passenger side footwell......and I would be pretty sure that will be your fault. All those faults that you are talking about are related to the SZL (Steering Wheel Cluster) which communicates everything through the ZGM to all the components in the car.
-Safety system error -Airbag and Restraint system error -Transmission Fail -Transmission failsafe mode -When engine is off, gear position P is engaged automatically -N is only possible when engine is running -Transportation mode -Parking brake error (after using it) + windscreen wipers didnt stop from lever -Buttons wont work in Steering wheel -Windscreen wipers doesnt work -Steering wheel adjust doesnt work -Horn doesnt work and the Dealer replaced my battery three times and the SZL three times. It wasn't until they did the ZGM that ALL THE LISTED FAULTS disappeared and I have never had a problem since. It is highly unlikely that all the modules have failed. Thats why the problem with the ZGM affects absolutely everything that runs through it from the SZL on the Steering Wheel. As you are aware, all your faults relate to all your controls on the SZL (Steering Wheel Module) and because they can't communicate with all the related other modules through the ZGM (Gateway Module) you get all those errors. On your steering wheel is Trans control, Cruise Control, Wipers, Lights, Horn, Buttons for changing gears manually and Airbag (which is part of the SIM that goes through the ZGM. I'll will be very interested to here the fix, but I would't mind betting it's the ZGM or maybe at a long shot the SZL, but for the SZL to go faulty on ALL controls is a real long shot unless you have crashed the car and the Air bag has been activated. What's involved in programming ZGM. I think mine is faulty. I have the Bavarian Tech entusiast tool (but actual values not working on my 04 745i, so hard to tell if it's over/under voltage - can't drive staring at operating voltage on dash all time) Regards Mark |

Same f..cking failure as described
Jassoo,
It's raining here for a week and today I've got exactly the same symptoms and errors you described with your 745i E65, except that mine is 730i E65. Same error codes and same faults. Now when you've replaced your SIM and ZGM modules, which one finally turned out to be faulty? ZGM, SIM or both? Also, was it in your case related to water, moisture and rain stuff ? Or was this just a coincidence? Are you on FaceBook? Regards, Boris |

In my case both ZGM and SIM modules was faulty.
if you get water in car you should immediately check drain pipes. Here is a link to picture: http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4009/4...00dd2eea_o.jpg |
