Battery Issues

I've put a new battery in my '89 325i and there seems to be some trouble. It would act as of there were corrosion on one of the terminals or cables. I pulled them both off and sanded away any possible corrosion. I found on the negative (or ground) cable that the metal was a golden color. When I put everything back and buttoned it up, the car wouldn't start. As if there were only enough power coming from the battery to turn the gauge lights on. Wouldn't turn over. Is the gold a sign that I need a new ground cable? Any other ideas?

if i remember correctly isnt gold more from overheating? just get a new terminal and run a new ground cable. not that expensive and you can reclean the point where it attaches to the body

The car hasn't overheated. So I'm not sure. You mean get a new terminal for the battery? Even though the battery is new?

on the overheated portion i was talking about the cables overheating from high amp draw for long periods. and thats from description before picture.

the cable doesnt look the best just past the terminal.

Oh I see. Well that is a possibility. The cable just past the terminal has a rusty orange rubber coating. Black probably would have been a better color choice. What would I do about that?

the easiest, replace it with a new cable. however it may not fix your problem. need to figure out your problem first
