Radio Amp/Melted Plug

Not sure if I am asking in the right forum? But I bought a 01 BMW X5 today and the radio had no sound, upon some investigation i found the amp in the rear compartment unbolted and unpluged. The inside of the plug looked as if it had some corosion and had melted. So I guess my question is, where can i get a good used amp for this x5 and why did it melt? Thanks for any help.
