I agree with Ze, if he's replaced the tranny and engine (which he says he did) and overhauled the suspension, that would get rid of most of my concerns. But I would still have some trepidation with basically everything else in the vehicle. He says it's "mechanic owned," so I'm assuming he's the one doing all the work on it. He wants 2k for it, but I doubt he will get it for that price when they hear how much is on the chassis.

lol In my experience "mechanic owned" typically means "neglected because I'm sick and tired of working on other peoples cars, so can't be bothered working on my own".

If you can get that for a little under 2, you should do it. Don't worry too much about the other stuff, parts cars abound for cheap replacements.

Mine is premium package with the h/k stereo. Great interior, newer tires, new radiator and several other things, front was in a minor accident and repair isn't perfect up to my standards, but its doable. Once I sort out a bouncy idle it will be great. Looking around 4k. If you can get this other one with no major problems for sub-2, do it.

I have owned a double handful of older bmw's over the years and they have all been easy to work on myself.
I currently own a 95 325i and a 68 DeVille both ragtops and I rate the mechanicals the same for ease of DIY. The computer stuff and the top are more complicated on the Bmw but not horrible if you use the forum and can use a test meter.

I don't race or track.

My e36 is my favorite car out all I have owned, if you count stuff I flipped over the years it's triple digits.

:drools: Me want... I mean, my wife would love it. Unfortunately it's a little to steep for us right now, but some what depends on tax returns and other variables. Are you immovable on that price? Have you overhauled any suspension components? What's the average gas mileage? Are you in so.CA by any chance?
