That's a disappointing article. If they used an aluminum chassis on the F10, they would of had plenty of weight margin for xDrive. I guess they know best. It's not like the new M cars are sitting on dealer lots in their first year of production, oh wait a minute - they are. At least Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes realized AWD is about more than snow traction. Godzilla paved the way and the rest are following. BMW will follow too...eventually.

If you drive the X5M, you will pretty much have your answer. Most versatile BMW I have ever driven.

We bought the 5.0 X5 with M Performance, M Sport, Luxury Seats, Premium Sound, Premium Package. It was $90,000 drive away. I got $33k trade on my 2011 X5 3.5i Premium with 47k miles and wrote a $57k check. I got the 6yr 100k warranty and 5yr 100k maintenance along with 5 yr wheel and tire coverage. I think if I had gotten the M5, it would have been another $20,000 without getting much more than 110 hp and less reliability and gas mileage.

This car is fast, with 440hp V8 and a really sweet sound when you turn it on and hit the accelerator. I have driven an M5 and that is the fastest car I have ever been in. My 2010 535i is fast but the X5 is faster, not as fast as the M5 but very fast. I haven't gotten the X5 out to where I can top end it but on my 535, I have a place out in East Texas near one of my properties that is about 3 miles straight and flat. I get the car up to 147 and it's still climbing. I am going to get the Dinan Stage 2 tune on my 535 on Monday. That car now feels sluggish after driving my wife's X5.

She whines because I didn't buy her the $57k ML350 with the fancy navigation system. The mercedes looks like a box and while it's nice, it's a marshmallow on performance, plus we owned a mercedes 20 years ago and it was expensive to maintain. I really like the styling on the X5 with M Sport package. It's a Silver exterior with black interior and the luxury seating package is hugely better than the standard seats we had in the X5 3.5i. Really a nice vehicle and while it's not the M, it's about as close as you can get without paying $20,000 more.

Congrats man, looks great and good choice with the extra warranties. I got my X5M for the same price though...there were some good incentives in December.

Btw, does Dinan really make a tune for the 535 now?!

No Adaptive Drive, and actually the car was $79,100 but with the warranties, tax, title and license it drove away for $90k.

We were looking at a 2012 X5 M with 8500 miles for the same price but it was in Houston and they told me it had been bought. They wouldn't CPO it because they claim it would cost them $3k to do it. This car was on the dealer lot and it was what we really wanted so I bought it because the N55 had problems in my 2011 X5 3.5i and we were at 47k without an extended warranty. I have had both turbos replaced on my 535i and all the injectors, it has a N54. All the work has been done under warranty so it didn't cost me anything but the N55 has been less reliable than the N54 and I wanted the V8 since I know it's got less issues with service. So we took it while we could get it.

The day I bought this car the BMW place in Houston called me back about the M asking if I wanted to buy it? Apparently some guy thought he was going to get a bonus and it fell through, they were holding it for him. Funny they would do that when I had a checkbook full of money. Oh well, I got what I got. I like it.

I got a great deal on my 535 because I bought it 3 years ago when the F10 was coming out. It was sticker for $60k and they gave it to me for $52k but when I drove it away with all the coverages, I wrote a $62k check. I just had my second tire replaced for free under the 5 yr tire warranty. This one had a screw in it and I had bought a new pair on the rear just a year ago so it was a low mileage tire. Pretty nice if you ask me.

Dinan makes a Stage II tune for the 2010 535i, it's $1799 and the BMW dealership is selling it to me so everything is wrapped in with my 4yr factory warranty and the extended warranty. The Stage II tune will get it to 378hp. I drive all over Texas going to bowling tournaments and out to my properties so I know all the good places to top end my cars. I love these cars. I don't fly anymore, refuse to be considered a terrorist so these cars are the next best alternative. I owned a lot of Lexus product before these, both 470's and 4xx sedans. They were nice but these are real cars. I bought the 535 when I gave my youngest daughter my 430 so she could have a high school car.

I have decided against an F10 because I have driven them and the E60 with the more powerful engine is the best feel I have ever experienced. It is a great combination of sport and luxury. I drove a Corvette when I was a young man in college and had a TR3 in high school. I got the Vette in 1976, it was a 4 speed 1975 pop top. Loaded with pollution control it only developed about 210 hp but it topped out at 135. I had to give it up when I got married in 1980. So I went a long time before I got another performance car. I drove a lot of crap in between, that's for sure. In the 90s when I was building my business I bought the Lexus 4xx series and drove them until 2010. I also had a Volvo 960 from 1993 to 1997 which was a fun car but my oldest daughter totaled it.

I have never really been one to drive a hard bargain on cars, I just buy what I like and if I don't like it, I replace it sooner than later. Money is made to be spent and cars are as good a place as any to spend it.

ETA: Pictures of my Vette in probably 77 or so, it had some miles on it by then. That's me smoking the cig in the middle picture. That is my parents driveway and if you look close you can see a Yamaha RD350 on the basketball court next to the house behind me (it's a rent house my parents owned, now I own it). That was my motorcycle, I was pretty nuts for speed in those days, nearly killed myself on that thing and just left it parked there until my dad sold it. The one on the right was taken in 1981 just before I got rid of the Vette. That is my wife and oldest daughter (now 32 with a 1 year old daughter). I have 5 kids so I spent lot's of money on kids and my youngest is now going to college but after that, I am done so I am spending money on cars again.

I timed the Vette in the quarter mile, we had a place we called LP Int on old Higway 146. It was a piece of road that got cut off when the put in a new highway, it really went nowhere but it was 2 miles long and the cops never bothered anyone who went out there to top out their car. It was between LaPorte and Seabrook so I think only Harris County had jurisdiction. Anyway, I could get the Vette up to 125 on that stretch and it did 85 through the quarter at 15.2 seconds. Pretty weak, I am sure my 535 will turn 13.xx at better than 100mph in the quarter but I don't have a place to run it. We had a quarter marked out there and lanes painted for drag racing sp we were always timing our cars. I was a pretty good driver and with a manual I got the most out of each gear. That RD350 was a screamer but I never got much more than high 14s from it but 0-60 was 3 seconds if you could keep the front end down. The top end was 105 and it shook like crazy but it was scary fun.............

One thing I don't do is borrow money for cars so I don't pay interest. I have gotten some good deals in the past and this X5 wasn't MSRP but the good ones get bought quickly. I used to buy pre-owned so I never paid list, I let someone else take the depreciation but that 2011 X5 was CPO and it was a dud on the engine in my view. I am not sure I will do a CPO again. I inherited my grandmothers land and money when my parents died, she bought me the Vette so I am not wanting for money these days. I am 57 years old and trying to enjoy the rest of my life. I beat stage 3b Colon cancer so why not enjoy things and not worry about money if I don't need to?

By cold start video what exactly do you mean?

OK, does it need to be in the morning? Or just any start after it's cooled down? My wife is out playing tennis now and she has it. I also will have to figure out how to post on Youtube, I only watch Youtubes so I have never posted. Been doing BBs for many years though so I know how to do all this OK.

OK, here we go, the first one is the cold start from yesterday but it wasn't very cold since it was 11am. She apparently took my car to tennis and so hers was cold. I couldn't get her to rev it up though. The second video is one we just took but it's not cold and she overreved it. BTW, she thinks we are just kids for posting these videos

Omg this is HILARIOUS!!!! Hahahaha, you're such a good sport for even giving in to crazy 5seriesHB's lunatic demands! Lol

I had show my wife these videos as she's just as bad and thinks I'm so immature for doing stuff like this too! Hahahaha, sounded good though!

OMG that is so funny that you talked your wife into revving it. That is classic comedy. She had better get a prize for that assist.

That was el Classico! Thanks for getting the whole family involved. Team player !
Ok first of all us x5 50 guys and x5m guys know how to have a laugh
If the x5 d guys could stop obsessing on mpg maybe we could have some fun w them
Why no cold start videos from them
I mean they say the 35 d is a total torque monster so lets see a video
Common ARD give us cold start for 2013 or anyone with a 35d
Cheers
And yes I am nuts
My wife just confirmed this!
