is this bull**** or is it legit
was asking why my wheels I bought online didn't come with tire pressure sensors and this is what they said...
" For the product you are referring to uses the indirect tire pressure monitoring systems, which don't rely on sensors to monitor tire pressure, but use wheel speed to monitor tire pressure and most vehicles after 2007 are equipped with such devices. " is this legit? that cars after 2007 don't need any sensor to monitor pressure? or are they bull****ting me? i bought a bmw wheel set from partslane.com which didn't come with sensors (had rubber hose instead of screw type) and am trying to sort it out. thanks |

Feed them their bull**** back.
http://blog.tirerack.com/blog/make-d...bmw-car-models Sensors did change b/w the model years but still are required regardless of the year. |

they sold cars with both systems. Our Canadian cars both have the indirect system. Either way the pressure sensors are extra cost, I bought a set for a 2012 Ford about $250 for the 4 of them.

Anyone know if this is valid for US cars too?

BMWs from model year 2007 on use TPMS sensors.

The sensors are separate from the wheels in any case. You need to buy them separately.

this is how they advertised it. I got wheels with rubber valves...should i have not assumed tire pressure controls mean the sensors in the wheels? also can sensors have rubber valves??
"Set includes four rims, tire pressure controls and balanced Bridestone Potenza run flat tires." |

But if it says "with controls", then those "controls" (whatever they are) should be included. Personally, I wouldn't expect them to pop for hundreds of dollars worth of sensors unless the purchase agreement included language that specified them. I do think you have a basis for a clarifying conversation with them...and you can send the wheels back. But realize that you're not going to get hundreds of bucks worth of sensors for nothing.

Definitely TPMS would be needed by 08. FTM was phased out in 07... Just had to read up on this myself.
"Pressure control" I suppose means anything that keeps the air in to these guys.

Translated from the original Chinese by a non-context sensitive translator engine, "valve stem" probably came out "tire pressure control device". You got what you paid for. Here's some Latin for you: caveat emptor.

2006 3 series doesn't require TPMS inside the wheel. It figures it out by the stuff they said in the OP thread. This was changed, just not sure what model year.

I know most of the time I'd need to buy the TPMS separate. But I was under the impression "tire pressure control" meant the sensors, that's why I chose to go with them. Since I got information about this website from BMW USA, I thought they'd be good about letting me know what was included. The sale was for wheel set with 4 rims, tire pressure controls, and run flat tires...I figured it'd be the complete set as BMW would specify...with TPMS.
Then they said BMWs 2007 onward didn't need sensors. It used alternate method of tire pressure monitoring. That's when I got unsure about the things I was being told so turned to the Bimmer folks for help. |

its not as cut and dry as MY 2007
E92/E93 used tpms from start of prod. E90/E91 used FTM (no sensors) from SOP till 3/2007. all E9X from march of 2007 production on use TPMS. there are MY 2007 328s and 335s that use FTM. adding even more fun, there was a sensor change in MY2010, 9/2009 production and newer, and those sensors are not compatible. dont even get me started about the F30 sensors... |
