iPhone 5, lightning adapter, 2008 X5

So I've been trying to confirm whether it works or not but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. I have the Y adapter in a 2008 x5. Does the Lightning 30 pin adapter work in the x5?

I bought one of the cheap chinese knockoffs which has been working fine but doesn't seem to work with the Y adapter. I have the Apple adapter on order but just wanted some confirmation.

Yes, it works (sort of). Both the lightning cable and the adapter version.

By "sort of", I mean that the iPhone 5 charges but it doesn't get the cell antenna boost.

Not sure what you mean by cell antenna boost.

Can I still play my music lists?

The Y-adapter and lightning adapter work just fine. No problems at all You can play music.

Ok, I guess getting the genuine Apple adapter should solve the problem. I will report my results.

I have not heard of any 'lightning knockoffs' that work... (and I'm not just talking about in a BMW). I'm surprised that you find one that works in some cases.

Nah, they do work. They wouldn't advertise for very long if they didn't work. The one thing is that Apple can programmatically change things in the future so things could change but they are so cheap it doesn't really matter.

FYI, in case anyone wants a comparison, the OEM Apple lightning adapter worked fine with the BMW Y adapter.

The knockoff works fine for data-syncing and recharging.

Bought the combo deal, micro-USB to lightning adapter and 30pin to lightning adapter. micro-USB still works using a battery power pack but the 30pin adapter seems to have stopped working in my docking station.

Guess I'm gonna stick with genuine stuff especially since I can get deals on eBay.
