Question 2008 X5 4.8i

Hello all, I have been a long time reader but this is my first post. I have found this forum to be very helpful when I was making my decision on picking up my first BMW.
About 8 months ago I picked up a fully loaded 2008 BMW X5 4.8i with Sports Package and Adaptive Drive but no 3rd Row Seat (I did not want it as I only have 2 kids.) It has been a great vehicle but I constantly get a "Level Control System Malfunction!" error message. Earlier the message was coming on intermittently regardless of what I was doing... parked, driving hard, or cruising on the freeway. After the dealer replaced the left rear pneumatic spring because there was a slow leak from that part. They also cleared all the faults.
After I got the car back, the message was coming only when I first turned the car on. I would turn it back off and on and drive off and the message would not reappear. I let the dealer know and they performed a ride height level adjustment. After I got the car back then, the message did not ever reappear. However, I went to Yellowstone with my family this weekend and the message was a constant irritation. As soon as I left my house, the message came on continuously even after turning the car off and on. I then adjusted the balance of the items in the cargo area (trollies, bags, and ice boxes.) Now the message went off for about 200 miles. When I stopped at a rest stop and restarted the car to drive off, the message came back on. All the things in the back were how I left them. For the rest of the trip, the message came on and off whether or not things were balanced, how I drove, and also when all the heavy items where left back at the hotel. Turning the car off and on did not help. On the bright side, it was the perfect car this side of a sports car on the winding mountain roads of Yellowstone.
This car has been great except for this message. It is a CPO and I had a PPI completed before I bought it. I may sell the car if this can't be solved. Is it just a minor warning or a major problem? During the trip when the warning was on, I noticed the right side of the car was lower by 1/2 inch. Has anyone experienced a problem such as this?
TIA,
M

I noticed the right side of the car was lower by 1/2 inch.

This is normal as the left sides of all BMWs sit a little higher to compensate for the driver on the left side.

The light is not normal.

Thanks Woody, I'm glad it is not caused by the Warning message as I was worried it could something bad to happen.
However, is it possible to get rid of the Level Control System Malfunction altogether? I can't believe that adding a little bit of wait in the back of the car is causing this to happen. I thought this car can even tow boats, etc. Is the message dangerous? Or just a minor warning?
Thanks,
M

I wouldn't take the message too seriously but do take it to the dealer to get handled. That being said I wouldn't go tow or haul stuff until it is repaired.

You will need to get this fixed. I Have had three adaptive drive X5's and have never experienced what you are talking about. The only time that I have had uneven ride height is when I put on my summer/winter setups and jack the car up. The air suspension will try to compensate and the car is all jacked up and out of wack. You should not have error at all. I would think they need to replace more than just the one bag. You may have leaks in other parts of the system than the bag.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try to get with the dealer soon. I have visited the dealer four times in the past month on this subject. It seems like it is a very rare problem, probably why the dealer has had a hard time trying to solve it. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Is it ever normal that the right side is lower than the left side?
