2010 X5 - Exhaust-Gas Values Warning Lamp on

I just completed 8000 miles on my 2010 BMW X5. For the past two days the Exhaust-Gas Values indicator Lamp is on. The manual says, the vehicle is producing an elevated amount of exhaust emissions; I called a service engineer in BMW and he told me to wait for three more days to see if the indicator lamp goes off by itself or not. If not, then he will schedule an appointment for me.

Has anyone faced this issue? I searched this forum and could not see anything on this topic.

Sorry to revive an old thread ... was wondering if anyone else has had experience w/ this as well. Currently made a service appointment for tomorrow but was wondering if the light extinguishes by itself.

Rich trove of threads on diesel CELs and what to do...

Universally, the first step?:

1. Bring it to the dealer, get the CODES read-

Next? POST them here. Not "what the service sdvisor told you was wrong" but the actual BMW code. (4 digits, alpha and numeric)

There are hundreds of things that can cause a CEL to come on- it is way foolish to speculate...

In this thread the OP got bad advice from the "service engineer" (OMG, who could that be??? Oh, you mean the twit service advisor?)..your light comes on, EVEN if it goes off you want the code read and documented.

thanks, ard. Yes, I did read alot of the threads after this one! I will post the code as soon as I can get it to the dealer, which in my case, is 80 miles away.

The other option is to pull your own codes, but seeing it is warranty, you might as well get this on the record (work order)

That's it? Nothing else?

You DO know that this light is called the "Check engine light' or CEL....only the manual (and US OBD regulations) would call it anb "incresae emissions exhaust gas indicator' or whatever....

thousands of posts on this ligght..hundreds of causes.
