Dinan Stage 2 Satisfaction

I'm thinking about taking advantage of the 15% off October Sales Event at Dinan and getting the Stage 2 tune installed in my 550i. Is everybody that has the Stage 2 tune pretty happy with the results? Any regrets or second thoughts about getting it done? Would you do it again?

For under $3k during the event it seems like a great bang for the buck considering the HP and torque gains Dinan advertises.

When I drove out of the shop with the mod, I didn't really notice a power boost - it only felt as if the power distribution was evenly split. However, by the second day the power was easily noticed! It is fast, fast, fast! You won't be disappointed with all the torque and horsepower.

The only problem with stage 2 is that you will realize how soft the stock suspension is while under power, so may end up want springs too.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go for it.

I'd like to get the suspension done at the same time but that will have to wait a bit. Maybe in the spring.

I had it on my previous 550 and I loved it. The tune is designed to maintain the OEM power delivery feel. It still feels like a 550 just faster and more effortless.

It is like BMW should have designed the car this way in the first place.

It's a must in my opinion for any 550 owner.

Friends,

Have few questions on dinan stage2

1. My dealer said stage2 is all we can do for a 535i considering that the 535i engine being tested throughly with the stock without any extra mod, If so that's the max. power you can get out of the 535i.... I meAn at least from dinan? Will there be another release that can come for our stage 2 users to upgrade?

2. My dealer also said, in case you have any issues after installing dinan, the warranty will never know you have anything added to your stock... So he said we can work that out... What does he mean?

3. I was more interested in Cobb but I have just 30+k miles on the car and wanted a peace of mind, I am sure Cobb with a stage1 is the same as dinan stage 2....

4. What other add' on I can add from the software/free flow exhaust?

Thank you all

Dinan Stage 2

Called Friday to inquire about the Dinan stage 2 and they had an opening so I impulsed bought the flash. Drove it home through the canyons and its a little hard to tell how much of a difference. If I were more clever I would have paid attention when I punched it coming out of turns but I didnt- just enjoyed the ride over.

On the way home there was tons of power, again it wasnt night and day since i couldnt put a finger on it. But it keeps pouring it on, zero turbo lag and very impressive.

Hope within the next day or so I can get it somewhere that I can punch it and really test the past vs present. Stay tuned

Mein Auto: 550ix Dinan S3
I just bought a 2013 550 xDrive, and had the dealer put on Dinan s3 (w/ Dinan exhaust) and Dinan springs. I have yet to drive it as it's being shipped to where I am moving this week, but i had my buddy drive it who is a BMW mechanic there. He said that it's not M5 fast, but it's not far off. He also said that it should be faster once the ECU learns the new flash.

Then the SA emailed the GSM of the dealer I bought the car through and said "Car is FASSSTTT!!! And looks good now that it is lowered a little.".

Should be fun to drive once it's broke in of course.

Here's the video of my buddy (the mechanic) taking a quick vid. https://www.facebook.com/video/video...=4849580808101

Hey guys,
I had it installed and gained 19hp and no I am not pleased.
I will contact Dinan and post more about this. I got dyno pulls before and after.
My advice to anyone thinking about this is to get objective measurements before and after. How will you know what you have purchased otherwise.

How long did you wait after the mod to dyno it?

Exactly. It does take some time to learn and get up to speed, from what I understand.

The car stayed on the dyno: Baseline pull, Dinan flash, then the final pull(~50 min after the first). I am going back in a few weeks for another run at it. The Dinan dealer offered to do it free, plus I have 2 more cars I want to dyno at the same time.
Also, I contacted Dinan and they have been very responsive and courteous.

What does the Dinan upgrade do to gas mileage?

The software does not hurt the gas mileage at all. We usually see an increase of a couple MPG. But, as you know you are adding power and usually you want to get out on the road and feel it. So of course, until you get the added power out of your system, you wont see those gains. Haha.

Stealth can give you a more in-depth comparison between the two. I believe he said it wasn't really that close.

I think it is well worth the upgrade - there is still a bit of turbo lag that I sense when I floor it from a stand still but huge boost edge when your cruising on the freeway and then floor it in the sport+ mode. It was a great deal in my view - close to having an AWD M5 - just missing the benefit of a DCT. I will tell you though the springs are the best thing when doing a simple comparison of individual modifications from the stock 550i - flattens the car out on turns and has a more aggressive stance with lowering. I also did the free flow exhaust - I'm not all that enamored with the Dinan tips though - might change those down the line.

Thanks for the advice. I have dinan exhaust on an older 3 series and I agree about the tips. how is the sound of the exhaust?

I was worried about the springs making the car too sporty (i.e. rough), is that not an issue?

I saw them too, but the S3 is the same as S2 + Add 10 to 20 Horsepower when used in conjunction with Dinan Exhaust

S4 is S2 + S3 + Add 10 to 20 Horsepower when used in conjunction with Dinan High Performance Air-to-Water Intercoolers

So unless I get the exhaust or the upgraded Intercoolers Stage 2 is where I should be

My perspective on the springs is biased by the fact that my 2 prior cars were a 2008 M3 and before that a 2000 M5. Although the M3 was a thrill ride and blast to drive, it was a little hard on my back and butt on rough midwest roads, especially in the winter. Then I test drove the stock 550i and I thought it was a bit like being on a boat in water when I turned corners sharply. The Dinan springs took the roll away but did not significantly roughen the ride in my view - I think by the way, that any roughness in the ride has more to do with the OEM all-season runflats that came with the car - I'm probably going to change them this summer to Conti Extreme Contacts. As far as the exhaust - I love the note. It is a bit throatier than the M3 but not overdone - I like it. Might change the tips though - or perhaps a diffuser. I could get carried away - my next cosmetic thing is to get an M grill.

I think some M drivers wonder what the point of all this is - M5 doesn't come in AWD. This is about as close as you get to an M5 with AWD. Just watch, though - the MB E63 AMG is coming out in AWD next year I believe. AWD M5 is just a little while away I suspect.

plus the 550i M sport xdrive with the Dinan mods is quite a bit less expensive than an M car
