If one doesn't want to buy from ebay for what ever reason DealExtreme sells it too here $37

Since you got linux how this is an issue? Because you got linux I assume you got some experience with computers? Just virtualize windows xp. Some distributions have virtualization tools pre-installed.

Sigh. Mac is a PC, if it ain't an ancient one. All 2007 mac's are PC's inside the fancy case. Use bootcamp or virtualize windows. And yes only windows.
What about this one, its K+CAN, any reason to choose this one over the $37 unit. http://dx.com/p/k-can-obd-ii-to-usb-...-for-bmw-71801
It states Function: Read/delete errors, adaptations and coding
I do not see that function in the overview section for the $37 unit, and the $67 does not state that it work with INPA. It states software CD included but which software it doesn't state.

No reason. The descriptions aren't excatly what you call clear. Both of them seem to support K-can+D-can. Many of those cd's are just for drivers. Anyhow you can download the software for free. Just browse the link that bluebee provided in this thread (this). The thing you'll most probably need is the EDIBAS package which includes the following:

INPA
NCSExpert
NCSPlant
NFS
WINKFP
ToolSet32
WINELDI

That will get you to pull codes & clear codes, code new modules, code new settings like seat belt warning, automatic door locking etc.

If you want it cheaper, buy it from ebay. I bought mine on ebay about 18 months ago.

I despise ebay and paypal for personal reasons, I would rather spend more money then let them make anything of me.

Then just buy the cheaper one from dealextreme. Since your car is 98 you'll want to grab this too. You'll need to use it to access other modules than ECU. That 20 pin connector can be found in the engine bay. You got the OBDII connector in the drives foorwell, but it's there just because it's the required to be there. When a BMW has that 20 pin connector under the hood use it.

Yup, I had that in my cart. 20 pin is what peake uses for my car as well.

I have the 20 pin and obdII adapter for the Peake. Why do you say to use the 20 pin if it has one?

Are you serious? You didn't even bother to read that one reply from start to finish, if you had you wouldn't be asking.

Maybe if I said "duh" or "doh" it would be a little more clear. I read over your post too fast as I was pulling up on a call.

There are so many inpa edibas USB cable and softwares out there but I'm still unsure witch one would be the best one to buy as I'm looking into coding modules, read and clear codes basically a full functional tool with most features that dealer may have.

The first post of this thread should give you a description of the cable to shoot for:

I have this code reader. I got mine from www.bimmian.com , it is very useful! It can read live data and scan every module for codes.
