Rear Suspension Squeak - e92 now sounds like a clown car
Just polling the group here to see if this is something you guys have experienced.
Over the past few weeks the rear has developed an annoying suspension squeak - I mean it turns people's heads when you drive down the street and are hitting uneven pavement. Coming from the driver's side rear wheel and sounds very much like this: I know, it's funny noise and you can make all the jokes you want, but it's pretty annoying. So has anyone experienced it or successfully fixed it? The research says it's control arm bushings, but funny enough my regular mechanic didn't seem interested in taking on the work and pointed me toward the dealer. Would like to avoid the cost that comes along with that proposition - can anyone recommend any good indy shops in Brooklyn, NY? Or since this looks like a 60 dollar part, is it something that can be easily DYI'ed? (I don't really have access to a garage or proper tools, so not sure what would be cheaper in the end, plus the risk of messing with the suspension when you don't really know what you're doing) Thank in advance for any advice! Control arm bushing? Easy R&R! You'll need an alignment after, however. But are you sure? Have you had it on a lift? How's the shock performing? |

Well I can't be 100% sure, because I wasn't at the shop when they lifted it. But that's what the mechanic told me it was afterwards. That's why I was a bit surprised as to why he didn't want to get involved on the work. Could've been a 150-200 job for him. Maybe, since he's a friend, he didn't want to get into chasing the noise for a low quote if it wasn't the bushings after-all.
Shock performs just fine. Haven't noticed the car behaving strangely at all. |
